The pillow was placed properly facing north. Then, the Blessed One went to that Gala bed and lay down on his right side, with his feet together, focusing his mind on the perception of light, mindfulness, and awareness, and solely on the thought of Nirvana. At that time, in the city of Kushinagar, there lived a wandering ascetic named Rabzang. He was old and frail, having lived for one hundred and twenty years, and the giants of the city of Kushinagar revered him, treating him as a guru, an idol, making offerings to him, and regarding him as an Arhat. Later, the wandering ascetic Rabzang heard that the ascetic Gautama (Shakyamuni Buddha) would enter the realm of Nirvana without remainder of aggregates at midnight tonight, and he thought to himself: 'I still have doubts and hesitations about the Dharma, and I hope that Gautama can dispel my doubts.' As soon as he heard this news, he immediately went to the city of Kushinagar and arrived at the twin Sala grove. At that time, the venerable Ananda was walking back and forth in the open space outside the monastery, and the wandering ascetic Rabzang saw him. Seeing the venerable Ananda from afar, he went to meet him, and after exchanging greetings and various pleasantries, they sat down together. Once seated, the wandering ascetic Rabzang said to the venerable Ananda: 'Ananda, I have heard that the ascetic Gautama will enter the realm of Nirvana without remainder of aggregates at midnight tonight, and I still have doubts and hesitations about the Dharma, and I hope that Gautama can dispel my doubts. Ananda, if it is not inconvenient for you, and if you think it is an appropriate time to request guidance, I would like to go in and ask some questions.' Ananda said, 'Rabzang, the Blessed One is unwell, the Tathagata is weary, Rabzang, please wait, the Blessed One...'

Do not disturb the departed! Between the second and third times, the wanderer Rabzang also said this to the venerable Ananda: 'Ananda, I have heard that the ascetic Gautama will completely pass into nirvana in the realm of nirvana without residue of aggregates tonight at midnight, and I have doubts and hesitations about the dharmas. I also hope that Gautama can dispel my doubts. Ananda, if you have no hindrance, and if you open the door of opportunity for the sake of requesting a prophecy, I will go in and ask some questions.' Between the second and third times, the venerable Ananda also said this to the wanderer Rabzang: 'Rabzang, the Blessed One is unwell, and the Well-Gone One is tired. Rabzang, please leave and do not disturb the Blessed One!' Even after saying this, the wanderer Rabzang again said this to the venerable Ananda: 'Ananda, I have heard from the great teachers of the ancient, aged, and decrepit wanderer groups that the Tathagatas, Arhats, and Perfectly Awakened Ones appear in the world only once every hundred years, like the Udumbara flower. Gautama will also completely pass into nirvana in the realm of nirvana without residue of aggregates tonight at midnight, and I have doubts and hesitations about the dharmas. I also hope that Gautama can dispel my doubts. Ananda, if you have no hindrance, and if you open the door of opportunity for the sake of requesting a prophecy, I will go in and ask some questions.' Then, the venerable Ananda again said this to the wanderer Rabzang: 'Rabzang, the Blessed One is unwell, and the Well-Gone One is tired. Rabzang, please leave and do not disturb the Blessed One!' Then, the Blessed One heard the conversation between the venerable Ananda and the wanderer Rabzang with his pure, divine ear that transcends human beings. Having heard it, he said this to the venerable Ananda:
