Thus he spoke. Venerable Ānanda, do not say that, do not prevent the wanderer Good Virtue, let him enter and ask what he wants. This is the last time I will speak with other non-Buddhist wanderers. Just so, this wanderer Good Virtue is also the last time I will say to my present hearers, "Come, bhikkhu, live the holy life." Then, the wanderer Good Virtue, having been granted permission by the Blessed One, rejoiced and was pleased, greatly delighted and pleased, and with joy and happiness arising, went to where the Blessed One was, and having arrived, spoke with the Blessed One face to face with various satisfying and pleasing words, and then sat down on one side. Having sat down on one side, the wanderer Good Virtue said this to the Blessed One: "O Gautama, in the world there are various different abodes of non-Buddhists, such as: Good Protection Perfection, Black Clothed Wanderer's Son, Good Victory Good Conqueror, Unsurpassed Hair Garland, Kātyāyana's Son Cowherd, Nirgrantha Jñātiputra, do these people each realize their own vows?" Then, the Blessed One at that time spoke in verse: I was twenty-nine years old, When I went forth to seek virtue. Good Virtue, after I went forth, Fifty-one years have passed since then. Morality, meditation, footprints, etc., I have cultivated with one-pointed mind. Even if only a little of the doctrine of reason is spoken, Other ascetics outside of this do not have it. Good Virtue, in whatever doctrine and discipline the Noble Eightfold Path is not present, there is no first ascetic. Nor is there a second ascetic, a third ascetic, or a fourth ascetic. Good Virtue, in whatever doctrine and discipline the Noble Eightfold Path is present, there is a first ascetic. There is also a second ascetic, a third ascetic, and a fourth ascetic. Good Virtue, in this doctrine and discipline, because the Noble Eightfold Path is present, there is a first ascetic. The second ascetic is also here. The third ascetic is also here. The fourth ascetic is also here. From this

In play there are no ascetics or Brahmins, and the refutations of outsiders are empty of ascetics and Brahmins. Here in this assembly, I truly roar the lion's roar. When this Dharma discourse was spoken, the wandering mendicant Rab-bzang (Excellent Good) developed a Dharma eye free from dust and defilement regarding the dharmas. The wandering mendicant Rab-bzang saw the Dharma, attained the Dharma, realized the Dharma, reached the depths of the Dharma, transcended doubt, transcended hesitation. He did not rely on others for the Teacher's teachings, nor was he guided by others. Having obtained fearlessness in the dharmas, he rose from his seat, draped his upper robe over one shoulder, and bowed with his palms joined towards where the Blessed One was. He said to the venerable Ananda: "Venerable Ananda, the Great Teacher has well obtained the empowerment by which the Great Teacher's attendant is empowered. For me, it is also well obtained to go forth in the well-spoken Dharma-Vinaya, to receive full ordination, and to obtain the state of a bhikshu." Then, the venerable Ananda said to the Blessed One: "Venerable, may this wandering mendicant Rab-bzang go forth in the well-spoken Dharma-Vinaya, receive full ordination, and become a bhikshu." Then, the Blessed One said to the wandering mendicant Rab-bzang: "Bhikshu, come! Practice the Brahmacharya!" Then, that venerable one immediately went forth, received full ordination, and became a bhikshu. Having thus gone forth, that venerable one dwelt alone in seclusion, diligent, zealous, and mindful. For what purpose do sons of good family shave their hair and beard, don dyed robes, and go forth from home to homelessness out of pure faith? He realized, attained, and understood the unsurpassed culmination of the Brahmacharya, which is made manifest by his own direct knowledge in this very life. He said: "Birth is exhausted, the Brahmacharya has been practiced, what needed to be done has been done, there is no further existence."

Having known thus, and having become all-knowing, that venerable one became an Arhat, and his mind was completely liberated. Then, the venerable Bhadraka, having attained Arhatship, experiencing the joy and bliss of liberation, thought to himself: It is not my place to see the Teacher pass into complete Nirvana. Therefore, I must pass into complete Nirvana before him. Thereupon, the venerable Bhadraka passed into complete Nirvana before the Blessed One, and after that, the Blessed One passed into Nirvana. When the Blessed One was in his final sleeping place, experiencing severe pain, explaining the essentials, and analyzing the details, Bhadraka was established in the state of Arhat, and many giants from the city of Kushinagar were also placed in the Dharma. At that time, the monks had doubts, and in order to dispel all doubts, they asked the Buddha, the Blessed One: Venerable one, this wandering ascetic Bhadraka, while the Blessed One is explaining the essentials and analyzing the details, is liberated from the bonds of Samsara and placed in the ultimate attainment of peace and secrecy, and the bliss of Nirvana, it is truly amazing! The Blessed One said: Monks, now that I am free from desire, hatred, delusion, birth, old age, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, pain, displeasure, and turmoil, when I am completely liberated, I liberate the wandering ascetic Bhadraka from the bonds of Samsara and place him in the ultimate attainment of peace and secrecy, and the bliss of Nirvana, what is so amazing about this? In the past, when I was still in desire, hatred, delusion, birth, old age, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, pain, displeasure, and turmoil, and not completely liberated, when I was born in the realm of animals, not knowing what to do and what not to do, I even gave up my own life to place the wandering ascetic Bhadraka and the giants of the city of Kushinagar from fear to fearlessness. Listen well and remember well, and I will tell you. Monks, in the past, in the past, in a mountain valley...
