The retinues of Brahma, the forerunners of Brahma, the great Brahmas, the lesser lights, the immeasurable lights, the clear lights, the lesser virtues, the immeasurable virtues, the expanding virtues, the cloudless ones, the merit-born ones, the great fruit ones, the great ones, the non-afflicted ones, the wondrous seers, the exceedingly good seers, having gone among the gods of Akanishta, proclaim the sound of impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness. They also utter two verses: Strive for definite emergence. Join the Buddha's teachings. Like an elephant destroying a reed house, destroy the army of the Lord of Death. Whoever in this Dharma and Discipline, conducts himself with mindfulness, having completely abandoned the cycle of birth, will bring suffering to an end. Thus they proclaim. Then, those rays circled the three thousand great thousand world realms, following behind the Blessed One. If the Blessed One wished to prophesy past actions, they would not appear on the side of the Blessed One's robe. If he wished to prophesy future actions, they would not appear in front. If he wished to prophesy that beings would be born in hell, they would not appear on the soles of his feet. If he wished to prophesy that they would be born as animals, they would not appear on his heels. If he wished to prophesy that they would be born as hungry ghosts, they would not appear on his toes. If he wished to prophesy that they would be born as humans, they would not appear on his two knees. If he wished to prophesy that they would become a wheel-turning monarch of strength, they would not appear on the palm of his left hand. If he wished to prophesy that they would become a wheel-turning monarch, they would not appear on the palm of his right hand. If he wished to prophesy that they would be born in the heavens, they would not appear on his navel. If he wished to prophesy that they would attain the enlightenment of a Hearer, they would not appear on his face. If he wished to prophesy that they would attain the enlightenment of a Solitary Buddha, they would not appear on the hair-whorl between his eyebrows. Unsurpassed perfect and complete

If you wish to prophesy enlightenment, then it will not appear on the crown of the head. Then those rays of light circled the Blessed One three times and disappeared into the white hair between the Blessed One's eyebrows. Then, the Venerable Ananda, with his palms joined, requested the Blessed One: "Various lights, interwoven with a thousand colors, have emerged from your mouth, illuminating all directions, just like the rising sun." He further requested in verse: "The Buddha, who is free from noise, does not like gluttony, and has abandoned everything, is the supreme source for beings. The victorious conquerors of enemies do not show a smile like the root of a lotus or the color of a conch shell without cause or reason. With steadfast wisdom, you know the right time. Monks, kings, and those seeking knowledge, please, Great Hero, with steadfast words, dispel the doubts that have arisen in the good people. The protectors, the perfect Buddhas, who are as stable as the ocean and the king of mountains, do not usually show a smile easily. For what reason, O Hero, do you show a smile? Most people desire to hear it from you." The Blessed One said: "Ananda, it is indeed so, it is indeed so. Ananda, the Tathagatas, Arhats, and Perfectly Enlightened Ones do not show a smile without cause or reason. Ananda, do you see this merchant showing me such respect?" "Venerable One, I see it." "Ananda, this merchant, with his roots of virtue, generation of the mind of enlightenment, and the act of giving, will become a Pratyekabuddha named 'Gentle Light'. His act of giving is that which has made my mind rejoice." "Monks, therefore you should train yourselves in this way: You should respect the Buddhas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Shravakas. Monks, you should train yourselves in this way." After the Blessed One had spoken thus, the monks rejoiced and greatly praised what the Blessed One had said. End. The seventh volume of the Hundred Karmas, called 'Light and Cool'.
