And the great belly-goers paid homage. Made him a guru. Made a picture. Made offerings. Gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, Garudas, kimnaras, and great belly-goers worshiped and knew the Buddha, the Bhagavan, who possessed great merit. He was endowed with robes, food, bedding, cushions, medicine, and medicine. When he was with the monastic community of Shravakas in Nyandu Yodpa (Shravasti), he was dwelling in the Jeta Grove, the garden of Anathapindada in the grove of Jeta, the prince of victory. At that time, there was a guardian deity of the Jeta Grove in Shravasti. He took a toothbrush and went to Shravasti. There was also a fortune teller sitting at the gate. He said, "Whoever eats this toothbrush will eat a hundred flavors of food." Then the guardian deity of the Jeta Grove heard these words and thought, "If I give this toothbrush to someone, I will be greatly respected because of him?" Again, he thought, "This Buddha, the Bhagavan, is a field of merit in the sentient and insentient world, and there is fruit for practice. I will offer this to the Buddha, the Bhagavan." Then the guardian deity of the Jeta Grove took the toothbrush and went to where the Bhagavan was. Having arrived, he bowed his head at the feet of the Bhagavan and sat to one side. After sitting to one side, the guardian deity of the Jeta Grove said to the Buddha, the Bhagavan, "Bhagavan, please accept this toothbrush for the sake of your compassion for me." Then, for the benefit of the guardian deity of the Jeta Grove, the Bhagavan stretched out his golden hand, which was like an elephant's trunk, and accepted it. After accepting it, he chewed it in front of the guardian deity of the Jeta Grove. After chewing it, he planted the toothbrush in the ground. At the moment of planting, branches, leaves, flowers, and fruits grew, and it became a great and perfect Nyagrodha tree, covering all directions. The Bhagavan sat in its shade and taught the Dharma to gods and humans. Then Anathapindada offered food.

I pray to the one with a hundred blessings. Then, the guardian of the monastery, having developed faith in his mind through the miraculous power of the Bhagavan, prostrated at his feet as if cutting a tree from its roots, and made a vow: May I, through this root of virtue, realize perfect enlightenment. Then, the Bhagavan smiled. This is the nature of the Buddhas, the Bhagavatans, when they smile: at that time, blue, yellow, red, and white rays of light emanated from his face, some going downwards and some going upwards. Those that went downwards entered the hells of beings, causing coolness to flow into the reviving hell, the black line hell, the crushing hell, the crying hell, the great crying hell, the hot hell, the extremely hot hell, the uninterrupted hell, the blister hell, the burst blister hell, the chattering teeth hell, the kyi hud hell, the achu hell, the hell where they crack like an utpala flower, the hell where they crack like a lotus flower, and the hell where they crack like a great lotus flower, all of which are hot hells for sentient beings. Warmth flowed into those hells of cold sentient beings. Thus, the specific harms of those sentient beings were pacified. Then, they thought to themselves: Have we died and transmigrated from here? Or have we been born elsewhere? Then, in order to generate faith in them, the Bhagavan emanated a manifestation. Having seen the manifestation, they thought to themselves: We have not died and transmigrated from here, nor have we been born elsewhere, but by the power of this unprecedented appearance of sentient beings, our specific harms have been pacified. Then, they became very happy with the manifestation, and thus the karma that would cause them to experience the suffering of hells was exhausted, and they would take rebirth among gods and humans in a place suitable to be a vessel of truths. Those that went upwards entered the retinues of the Four Great Kings, the Thirty-three, the Free from Strife, the Joyful, the Delight in Emanation, the Controlling Others' Emanations, the retinues of Brahma, and the Brahma's Attendants.
