Then, the king, born of the royal lineage and crowned with empowerment from the crown of his head, rose from his seat, draped his upper garment over one shoulder, knelt on his right knee, and bowed with palms joined to the Fully and Perfectly Awakened Sandalwood Gala Buddha. He then addressed the Fully and Perfectly Awakened Sandalwood Buddha thus: "Venerable One, would you grant permission for the community of monks to reside with me in this royal palace for three months?" Then, the Fully and Perfectly Awakened Sandalwood Buddha, without saying anything to the king, granted his request. At that time, a great drought occurred, causing the rivers and wells to become shallow, and the trees to be without flowers and fruit. Then, the king prayed to the Fully and Perfectly Awakened Sandalwood Buddha, saying: "Venerable One, please allow me to have a pond filled with scented water made in this city, so that the Venerable One, together with the community of Hearer monks, may bathe there. If the Venerable One bathes in this way, I hope that rain will fall in my country." Then, the Venerable One, the Fully and Perfectly Awakened Sandalwood Buddha, without saying anything to the king, granted his request. Then, the king, born of the royal lineage and crowned with empowerment from the crown of his head, said to his ministers: "Prepare the scented water and the precious vases, for I shall use them to bathe the Buddha, the Venerable One, and the community of Hearer monks." Then, the king, together with his retinue of ministers, cleared the city of stones, rubble, and pebbles, raised victory banners, hung up flags, scattered various flowers, sprinkled scented water, burned various incenses, and had a pond built in the center. Then, the Venerable One, the Fully and Perfectly Awakened Sandalwood Buddha, for the benefit of sentient beings, put on a bathing cloth and entered the pond. Then, the king, the ministers, and the retinue together bathed the Venerable One, the Fully and Perfectly Awakened Sandalwood Buddha, and the community of Hearer monks with water soaked in various fragrances.
