O monks, kings, and those who listen, Somnyi Tsalwa, I pray that you dispel the doubts that arise in the virtuous, and may the supreme words of the supreme leader, the Buddha, remain firm. Like the ocean and the king of mountains, the protectors, the perfect Buddhas, do not easily show a smile. For what reason does the hero show a smile? It is for the sake of the majority of people who listen from you. The Blessed One said: Ananda, it is just so. It is just so. Ananda, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly enlightened Buddhas do not show a smile without a cause or condition. Ananda, have you seen these musicians showing such respect to me? Venerable one, I have seen it. Ananda, these musicians, by completely giving away the root of virtue, the generation of Bodhicitta, and the Dharma of giving, will, as the time ripens, perfectly accomplish the Pratyekabuddha's enlightenment, and in the future, they will become entirely Pratyekabuddhas named Melodious Sound, loving the afflicted and impoverished, living in remote dwellings, and becoming the sole object of offerings in the world. This is their mind that rejoices in giving. Then, the monks became doubtful and asked the Buddha, the Blessed One, who cuts off all doubts: Venerable one, by what virtuous roots do they possess such power? The Blessed One said: O monks, the Tathagata himself has accumulated merit in other past lives, possessing the complete conditions, emerging like a dam bursting. Those deeds will not be wasted. Having done and accumulated those deeds, how could others experience the deeds that I have done and accumulated? O monks, the deeds that have been done and accumulated will not ripen in the external earth element, nor will they ripen in the water element, the fire element, or the wind element. The virtuous and non-virtuous deeds that have been done and accumulated will ripen purely in the aggregates, elements, and sense bases that are grasped. The deeds of sentient beings, even after hundreds of thousands of kalpas, will not be exhausted. When the conditions gather and the time ripens, they will naturally ripen into their fruit.

Trans. Bhikshus, in the past, there was a Tathagata, Arhat, Samyak-sambuddha, perfect in knowledge and conduct, Sugata, Lokavidu, Purushadamyasarathi, Anuttara, Shasta Devamanushyanam, Buddha, Bhagavan named Awakened One appeared in the world. He traveled around and came to a royal palace. Then, there was a garden of the king that was full of abundant fruits in all seasons. The Bhagavan went to that garden and stayed under a tree in order to benefit that king. Then, he sat on the prepared seat and entered the fire element samadhi. Then, that king of royal lineage, who was crowned from the head, went to that garden with the sound of women's cymbals and musical instruments. Then, as that king wandered and walked in that garden, he saw the Bhagavan, the perfectly enlightened Buddha Awakened One, beautiful and delightful, with subdued senses, a peaceful mind, an extremely gentle and completely peaceful mind, shining like a golden stupa. Having seen him, that king became joyful and, together with his retinue of consorts, played various cymbals and requested the Bhagavan to rise from that samadhi. He also offered delicious food and made aspirations for attaining the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. Bhikshus, what do you think? Who was the king at that time and in that era? It was I. Because of the merit of offering to the perfectly enlightened Buddha Awakened One, I am now being served in this way by musicians. Bhikshus, therefore, you should train yourselves in this way: to respect the teacher, to honor him, to revere him, to make offerings to him. Having respected the teacher, honored him, revered him, and made offerings to him, you should dwell in reliance. Bhikshus, you should train yourselves in that way. After the Bhagavan spoke thus, the bhikshus were delighted and greatly praised the words spoken by the Bhagavan.

Do. The so-called supreme giving is this: To the Buddha Bhagavan, the kings and great ministers, as well as the wealthy and the people of the palace entourage, and the merchants and captains, as well as the gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas, all gave respect, regarded as teachers, drew pictures, and made offerings. The Buddha Bhagavan, who was worshiped and known by the gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas, possessed great merit and obtained robes, food, bedding, cushions, medicine, and medical supplies. At that time, the Buddha, together with the Shravaka Sangha, was residing in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove of Prince Jeta, in the Anathapindika's Garden. At that time, in Shravasti, there was a defiled person who lived by engaging in illicit affairs with other people's wives. He was captured by the king's men and presented to the king. Then, because he repeatedly committed offenses, the king handed him over to the executioner. Then, those of the king's men, dressed in blue clothes, carrying weapons, and wearing garlands of karavira flowers around their necks, cried out in lamentation on the main roads, streets, crossroads, and intersections, and led him to the south gate of the city. At that time, for the Buddhas Bhagavan, there was nothing that was not known, not seen, not understood, or not comprehended. The Buddha Bhagavan, possessing great compassion, engaged in benefiting the world, possessing a single protector, singularly brave, incomparable, not speaking in two ways, abiding in shamatha and vipassana, manifesting the three knowledges, well-trained in the three trainings, skilled in the three bases of discipline, having crossed the four rivers, the soles of the feet of the four miraculous legs being extremely firm, having been familiar with the four objects of gathering for a long time, fearless with the four fearlessnesses, proclaiming the great lion's roar of the supreme leader, having completely abandoned the five branches, having completely transcended the five destinies, possessing six qualities.
