And the Paranirmitavasavartins, and the Brahma hosts, and the Brahmapurohitas, and the Mahabrahmas, and the Parittabhas, and the Apramanabhas, and the Abhasvaras, and the Parittasubhas, and the Apramanasubhas, and the Subhakrtsnas, and the Anabhrakas, and the Punyaprasavas, and the Brhatphalas, and the Avrhas, and the Atapas, and the Sudrsas, and the Sudarsanas, and going as far as the Akanistha gods, proclaimed the sound of impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness. They also recited two verses: Strive for renunciation. Apply yourselves to the Buddha's teachings. Like an elephant destroying a bamboo house, destroy the army of the Lord of Death. Whoever in this Dharma and Discipline, lives diligently, having completely abandoned the cycle of rebirth, will bring suffering to an end. Then those rays circled the three-thousand great-thousand world system, following after the Blessed One. If the Blessed One wished to prophesy past actions, they would not appear on the Blessed One's back. If he wished to prophesy future actions, they would not appear in front. If he wished to prophesy that beings would be born in hell, they would not appear on the soles of his feet. If he wished to prophesy that they would be born as animals, they would not appear on the heels of his feet. If he wished to prophesy that they would be born as pretas, they would not appear on his toes. If he wished to prophesy that they would be born as humans, they would not appear on his two knees. If he wished to prophesy that he would become a powerful wheel-turning king, they would not appear on the palm of his left hand. If he wished to prophesy that he would become a wheel-turning king, they would not appear on the palm of his right hand. If he wished to prophesy that he would be born in the heavens, they would not appear on his navel. If he wished to prophesy that he would attain the Bodhi of a Hearer, they would not appear on his face. If he wished to prophesy that he would attain the Bodhi of a Pratyekabuddha, they would not appear on the hair-whorl between his eyebrows.

If you wish to prophesy the unexcelled, perfectly complete enlightenment, then it will not appear in the crown of the head. Then, those rays of light circumambulated the Blessed One three times, and disappeared into the crown of the Blessed One's head. Then, the venerable Ānanda, with his palms joined together, asked the Blessed One: "Various lights interwoven with a thousand colors, have emerged from the door of your mouth, illuminating all directions, just as the rising sun does." Again, he requested in verse: "Free from clamor, not delighting in satiety and abandoning it, the Buddha is the sacred source for beings. The victorious conquerors of enemies, without cause or condition, do not show a smile like the lotus root and conch color. Since you, with steadfast wisdom, know the opportune time, please, monks, kings, listeners, and those seeking doubts, dispel the doubts that arise in the good ones with the steadfast and excellent speech of the Lion of Sages. The protectors, perfect Buddhas, steadfast like the ocean and the king of mountains, why do they not show a smile now? For what reason does the hero show a smile? Most people want to hear from you." The Blessed One said: "Ānanda, it is just so. It is just so. Ānanda, the Tathāgata, Arhat, perfectly complete Buddhas, do not show a smile without cause or condition. Ānanda, have you seen this eldest son of the merchant showing such respect to me?" "Venerable One, I have seen it." "Ānanda, this eldest son of the merchant, by completely abandoning the roots of virtue, the mind of enlightenment, and the Dharma to be given, will perfectly accomplish the enlightenment to be accomplished in three countless eons, completely subdued by great compassion, having perfected the six pāramitās, endowed with the ten powers, the four fearlessnesses, the three unmixed mindfulnesses, and great compassion, will become the perfectly complete Buddha Śākyamuni, and will appear in the world. His Dharma to be given is that which makes my mind greatly rejoice."

This is how it transformed. After the Blessed One spoke thus, those monks rejoiced and greatly praised what the Blessed One had said. The lotus is like this: The Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, are revered by kings, great ministers, wealthy people, palace attendants, merchants, captains, gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas. They are honored as teachers, respected, and offered to. The Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, who are worshiped and known by gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas, possess great merit and have obtained robes, food, bedding, seats, medicines, and medical supplies. Together with the Sangha of Hearers, they reside in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove of Prince Jeta, in the Anathapindika's Garden. Before the Blessed One appeared in the world, King Prasenajit would worship other gods three times a day with flowers, incense, perfumes, garlands, and ointments. When the Blessed One appeared in the world, King Prasenajit was subdued by teachings such as the Kumara Sutta, and he gained faith in the teachings of the Blessed One. At that time, he felt joy and happiness, and three times a day he would go to the Blessed One and make offerings with lamps, incense, flowers, perfumes, garlands, and ointments. Then, after a while, a guardian of the Jeta Grove took a newly grown lotus flower and went to King Prasenajit in Shravasti. A non-Buddhist devotee saw it and asked, "Hey, man, are you selling that lotus?" The man replied, "Yes, I am selling it." That man wanted to buy it, and after a while, Anathapindika went there and doubled the price. The two of them kept raising the price, until it reached a hundred million.
