I saw a great sight. Having seen it, doubts arose, and in order to dispel all doubts, I asked the Buddha, the Blessed One: "Blessed One, what is this? Last night, did the lord of the Sahā world, Brahmā, or the lord of the gods, Indra, or the Four Great Kings come to see the Blessed One?" The Blessed One replied: "Monks, it was not the lord of the Sahā world, Brahmā, nor the lord of the gods, Indra, nor the Four Great Kings who came to see me. But a single son of a Brahmin, who died young, and because he had joy in me, was born in the good heaven of the Thirty-Three. He came to me last night, and I taught him the Dharma, and he realized the truth and returned to his abode. At that time, that Brahmin, because he had lost his only son, who was dear, cherished, beloved, pleasing, patient, and irreplaceable, took him to the cemetery, placed him on his lap, and cried out: 'My son! My precious son! My only son!' Although his relatives tried to comfort him, they could not stop his grief. Crows, hawks, vultures, and foxes surrounded him. Women with disheveled hair accompanied him, and many people were watching and staying. Then, that son, who had been born as a god, saw his father wailing and was moved with compassion. In order to dispel his father's sorrow, he transformed himself into an ascetic and practiced five austerities near the cemetery. Then, that Brahmin asked that ascetic: 'Great ascetic, what do you want to achieve through this austerity?' The ascetic said: 'I want to achieve the power to rule the world. My golden chariot is decorated with various jewels, the sun and moon are the wheels, and the Four Great Kings lead the way. I want to ride this chariot and circle the entire earth.' The Brahmin said: 'Even if you constantly practice austerity for a hundred years, even if you practice the highest austerity, you will not be able to obtain that position.' The ascetic said: 'What do you achieve by holding this corpse that emits a foul odor, is impure, and is like holding a piece of wood?' The Brahmin

It is said that the poor only son died and was being mourned. The hermit said: Even if you continue to cry for a hundred years, you will not be able to get that son again. What is the use of your crying? After that, the Brahmin thought that the hermit's words were true, and he developed faith. After developing faith, he asked: Who are you? After that, the hermit hid that attire and appeared in his own attire, and said to the father: I am your only son. I died with joy in the Bhagavan's heart, and was reborn in the beautiful heaven of the Thirty-three (Trāyastriṃśa). I came here to dispel your sorrow. Father, please come here and take refuge in the Bhagavan, and you can also be liberated from samsara. After that, the Brahmin threw away the bones of the dead and went to the place where the Bhagavan was. After arriving, he prostrated at the feet of the Bhagavan and sat in front of the Bhagavan to listen to the Dharma. After that, the Bhagavan taught him the Dharma that would enable him to realize the Four Noble Truths. After hearing it, the Brahmin destroyed the twenty high peaks of the mountain of the view of the aggregates with the vajra of wisdom, and obtained the fruit of stream-entry. He obtained higher rebirth, obtained benefits, bowed his head at the feet of the Bhagavan, circumambulated the Buddha three times, and left. After that, the monks became doubtful and asked the Buddha Bhagavan, who cuts off all doubts: Bhagavan, please see how this son of a god eliminates his father's sorrow and also establishes him in seeing the truth. The Bhagavan said: Monks, what is so amazing about this person now seeing the truth and completely protecting his father? In the past, when he was still an ordinary person, he also saved his father three times from being killed. Listen carefully and keep it in mind, and I will tell you. Monks, in the past, in the city of Varanasi, there was a man who had an affair with another man's wife. His son was faithful, virtuous, and kind-hearted, and people admired him very much. Then, one day, his father became a thief, and the king was going to execute him.
