He was one who dwelt in great generosity. For a time, after making offerings to all the renunciates, thousands of non-Buddhists and others ate food there. When the Blessed One subdued King Rupakaya with his retinue, and after subduing him, hundreds of thousands of beings became tame, at that time, many relatives of Ganga from Rajagriha came and praised the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha in front of Ganga. Then, the tall and great Brahmin Ganga, having heard the virtues of the Blessed One, became greatly delighted. Then, having gone to the roof and sitting facing the side of Rajagriha, with both knees planted on the ground, he also scattered flowers, and also offered incense and water, and prayed to the Blessed One: Blessed One, please come to my offering, please look upon the gathering place of the offering. Then, by the power of the Buddhas of the Buddhas, and by the power of the gods of the gods, those flowers became a palace of flowers above the Blessed One and remained. The incense became like the top of a cloud. The water became like a tree of Vaidurya. Then, the venerable Ananda, with his palms joined together, asked the Blessed One: Venerable one, from where does this invitation come? The Blessed One said: Ananda, in the region called Southern Mountain, there dwells a tall and great Brahmin named Ganga, we must go there, monks, listen to the Dharma! Then, the Blessed One, attended by a thousand monks, traveled through the region of the Southern Mountain, and arrived near the gathering place of the offering of the tall and great Brahmin Ganga, thinking: I should make the Brahmin Ganga have faith through miraculous displays. Then, the Blessed One made those thousand monks invisible, and alone, carrying a begging bowl and a water pot in his hand, went near Ganga. Then, the tall and great Brahmin Ganga saw the Blessed One, whose body was well adorned with the thirty-two marks of a great man, beautifully decorated with the eighty minor marks, and whose light was a fathom.

Adorned, possessing light surpassing a thousand suns, he saw the all-good one like a jewel mountain walking. Having seen this, he went very quickly to the Blessed One and said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, well gone! Blessed One, please abide! Would you allow me to offer food for the sake of benefiting me?" The Blessed One said: "If you can give it all away, give it into this bowl." Then the great and tall Brahmin Gampo, attended by five hundred Brahmin youths, brought various kinds of food to the Blessed One, and filled the bowl with food, soft things, lickable things, and chewable things. The Blessed One also transferred those foods from his own bowl into the bowls of a thousand monks. When the Blessed One realized that the bowls of a thousand monks were full, he showed that his own bowl was also full. Then he showed that the thousand monks' bowls were full, arranged in the shape of a crescent moon. Even the gods dwelling in the sky said: "The Blessed One and the bowls of a thousand monks are full!" They uttered such words. Then, because of showing the miracle, the great and tall Brahmin Gampo became very happy. He was happy, satisfied, and very joyful, feeling pleased, happy, and content, and like a tree cut from its roots, he prostrated at the feet of the Blessed One and made the aspiration: "By this root of virtue, generation of the mind of enlightenment, and the complete giving away of the Dharma, may I become a Buddha who leads the blind world without a guide or a complete guide, liberating beings who have not been liberated, freeing beings who have not been freed, giving breath to beings who have not been given breath, and leading beings who have not completely passed beyond suffering to complete liberation from suffering." Then, the Blessed One, knowing the causes and karmas of the great and tall Brahmin Gampo passing from one to another, smiled. This is the nature of the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, when they smile, at that time blue rays of light emanate from their mouths.
