Recognizing that this wheel is moving and unstable, he determined that the nature of all conditioned phenomena is collapse, fall, dissipation, and destruction. Having abandoned all defilements, he realized the state of an Arhat, becoming an Arhat, free from the desires of the three realms, regarding gold and rubble as equal, possessing a mind like the sky and the palm of the hand, becoming as cool as if soaked in sandalwood, destroying the eggshell with wisdom, obtaining wisdom, supernormal powers, and individual perfect knowledge, not craving conditioned gains, attachments, and reverence, becoming a place of offering, remembrance, and respect for the gods and their retinues. Then, King Ashoka became doubtful and asked the Venerable Upagupta: "Venerable, what deeds did Sudarśana perform to possess such a beautiful appearance? What deeds did he perform to obtain a jewel pond filled with heavenly fragrant water, and a vast garden with abundant flowers and fruits, and to be able to walk?" Venerable Upagupta replied: "Great King, Sudarśana, in other past lives, accumulated merit and possessed the necessary conditions, appearing like a breach in a dam, and performed and accumulated deeds that would not be in vain. How could others experience the deeds that Sudarśana himself performed and accumulated? Great King, the deeds performed and accumulated will not ripen in the external realm of earth, nor will they ripen in the realms of water, fire, and wind. The virtuous and non-virtuous deeds performed and accumulated will only ripen in the aggregates, realms, and sources that are grasped. The deeds of sentient beings, Will not be lost even in hundreds of eons. Once gathered and the time is ripe, They will manifest as results." Great King, in the past, when the Bhagavan passed into complete nirvana, the venerable Mahākāśyapa, with five hundred attendants, was wandering in the country of Magadha, wishing to properly compile the Dharma. Once, a poor merchant offered a bhikṣu

The Sangha was mostly overwhelmed by the grief of being separated from the Teacher, and he saw them walking wearily, their bodies covered with dust. Then he felt compassion and invited five hundred bhikshus, including Mahakashyapa, to a proper bath. Then he offered warm water mixed with various perfumes, washed the bodies of the bhikshus, and also washed their Dharma robes. He satisfied them with delicious food, and had them take refuge and observe the precepts, and then made a prayer: May I be ordained in the teaching of the Blessed One Shakyamuni and realize the state of an Arhat. Great King, what do you think? At that time, that poor merchant was this Bhikshu Beautiful Countenance. Because he gave the bhikshus a proper bath, he became so extraordinarily beautiful, and he obtained a jewel pond filled with divine perfume, and a great garden full of flowers and abundant fruits. Because he took refuge and observed the precepts, he realized the state of an Arhat in this very life. Great King, thus, decisive black actions will definitely have black results. Decisive white actions will definitely have white results. Mixed actions will have mixed results. Great King, therefore, you should abandon decisive black actions and mixed actions, and focus only on decisive white actions. Great King, you should train yourself in this way. Then, King Ashoka praised what the Elder Upagupta had said, rejoiced, rose from his seat, and departed. The tenth chapter of the summary verses from the Hundred Jataka Tales is completed. The Hundred Jataka Tales, including Gambo, are completed. Translated and finalized by the Indian Abbot Jinamitra and the Reviser Translator Bandide Dawa Tsandra.
