The place for use has been used up. The work has been done. Thinking that one does not know other existences besides this, after knowing everything, that long-lived one became an Arhat, the mind being completely liberated. Then, the Blessed One said to the monks: Monks, among my Shravaka monks, the most excellent of those who have individually attained correct wisdom is like this, namely this Great-bellied Monk. After that, the monks became doubtful. The one who cuts off all doubts, asked the Buddha, the Blessed One: Venerable one, what deeds did the Great-bellied one do to become a great speaker of scriptures, and also to manifestly attain the state of Arhat after becoming a renunciate? The Blessed One said: The Great-bellied one himself, in other previous lifetimes, accumulated merits and possessed the completed conditions, appearing like crossing a river with a raft, and because he did and accumulated those deeds that would not be wasted, how could others experience those deeds that the Great-bellied one himself did and accumulated? Monks, the deeds that have been done and accumulated will not ripen in the external realm of earth, nor will they ripen in the realm of water, fire, or wind, but the virtuous and non-virtuous deeds that have been done and accumulated will only ripen in the aggregates, realms, and sources that are grasped. The deeds of sentient beings, Even in hundreds of kalpas will not be lost. When accumulated and the time arrives, They will ripen into fruit. Monks, in the past, in the city of Varanasi (ancient Indian place name), a tribal leader and five hundred wild men set out to become robbers. After a while, they went on and on, and when they arrived at a sandalwood forest, the leader said: Those with lotus-like eyes, look and see if there are any other people here? They replied: We will make offerings to the Yaksha spirit and then leave. After that, those wild men turned around and saw a Pratyekabuddha living in that sandalwood forest, grabbed him and brought him before the leader. Then, the leader of the wild men ordered: Beat him! After that, in order to benefit them, that Pratyekabuddha stretched out his wings like the king of swans.

Then, he manifested various miracles in the sky. After that, the leader of the wild people, like cutting down a tree from its roots, prostrated at (the Buddha's) feet, confessed his sins, and also offered food, and prayed: May I also attain such qualities. May I please the teacher who is even more excellent than this, and may I not displease (the teacher). The Blessed One said: Monks, what do you think? The leader of the wild people at that time was this very pot-bellied person. Furthermore, the Blessed One ordained during the time of the Buddha Kashyapa, and there he maintained the practice of celibacy for ten thousand years. He has now directly realized the state of an Arhat. Monks, therefore, actions that are definitely black will definitely have results that are also black. Actions that are definitely white will definitely have results that are also white. Mixed actions will also have mixed results. Monks, therefore, abandon actions that are definitely black and mixed actions, and focus only on actions that are definitely white. Monks, you should train yourselves in this way. After the Blessed One said this, the monks rejoiced and praised what the Blessed One had said. The meaning of 'Truly Victorious' is: Kings, great ministers, wealthy people, palace attendants, merchants, and captains, as well as gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas, all revered, respected, regarded as teachers, used as models, and made offerings to the Buddha, the Blessed One.

He remained in the grove of twin sala trees near the city of Kushinagara. Then, when the time for the Blessed One to pass into complete nirvana had come, he said to the venerable Ananda: Ananda, the Tathagata will pass into complete nirvana in the realm of nirvana without remainder of aggregates tonight at midnight. Prepare a bed for the Tathagata between the twin sala trees, with the pillow facing north. Then the monk replied, "So be it, O Blessed One." The venerable Ananda, as instructed by the Blessed One, prepared a bed between the twin sala trees, with the pillow facing north, and then the Blessed One went to the place of the bed, and having arrived, lay down on his right side, with his feet together. Having placed his feet together, endowed with the perception of light, mindfulness, and awareness, he contemplated only the thought of nirvana. There, the Blessed One passed completely into nirvana in the realm of nirvana without remainder of aggregates at midnight. As soon as the Buddha, the Blessed One, had passed into complete nirvana, the great earth shook violently. Meteors fell. There was a crackling sound from all directions. The sound of heavenly drums resounded from the sky. At the moment when the Buddha, the Blessed One, passed into complete nirvana, the best of the forest trees, the twin sala trees, bent down, and scattered flowers upon the Tathagata lying in the lion's posture. As soon as the Buddha, the Blessed One, had passed into complete nirvana, a certain monk spoke in verse: The best of the trees in the sala grove, these two are beautiful and adorned; upon the Teacher who has passed into nirvana, flowers are scattered all around. As soon as the Buddha, the Blessed One, had passed into complete nirvana, the lord of the gods, Indra,
