Nor has it been done by others. Nor has it been done by former teachers. Nor has it been done by ascetics and Brahmins. Furthermore, he said: 'The path of evil destinies, filled with many faults, extremely unbearable, has been cut off by your power. The path to the heavens, filled with abundant merit, has been opened. I have also attained the path to Nirvana. Today, I have obtained the eye that abandons faults, relying entirely on you. I have crossed the ocean of suffering, and attained the peaceful state that pleases the noble ones. The supreme among men, the powerful one, worshiped by gods and humans, who has abandoned the diseases of birth, old age, and death, the Thuba (Sage), who is difficult to see in thousands of existences, you are seen today, and the result is real.' Then, the one wearing the necklace became joyful, bowed and prostrated to the two feet, and also circumambulated the conqueror of enemies, facing the heavenly realm, and went to the heavenly realm. Then, that goddess was like a merchant who had made a great profit, a farmer who had a bountiful harvest, a hero who had won a battle, and a sick person who had been freed from all diseases. With whatever wealth she had come to the Blessed One, she returned to her own abode with that same wealth. The monks, not sleeping at night or dawn, abiding in diligent practice, saw a great light appear before the Blessed One. Having seen it, they also became doubtful, and in order to dispel all doubts, they asked the Buddha, the Blessed One: 'Blessed One, what is the reason? Did Brahma, the lord of the Tushita heaven, or Indra, the lord of the gods, or the four guardians of the world come to behold the Blessed One?' The Blessed One replied: 'It was not Brahma, the lord of the Tushita heaven, or Indra, the lord of the gods, nor the four guardians of the world who came to see me. Did you see the girl who scattered flowers on the road?' 'Venerable one, I saw her.' She died after generating joy in me, and was reborn in the excellent heaven of the Thirty-Three, and then came to me. I taught her the Dharma, and she realized the truth, and then returned to her own abode. Monks, therefore, you should train yourselves in this way: Respect the teacher, regard him as the supreme guru, honor him, and make offerings to him. Respect the teacher, regard him as the supreme guru.'

After the Blessed One had spoken thus, those monks rejoiced and greatly praised what the Blessed One had said. The thirteenth volume of the Hundred Parables of the Wise. The so-called "Glorious One" is the Buddha, the Blessed One, who is revered by kings, great ministers, wealthy people, palace attendants, merchants, captains, gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas. They are respected, made into gurus, made into images, and offered to. The Buddha, the Blessed One, who is offered to and known by gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas, is endowed with great merit and has obtained robes, food, bedding, cushions, medicine, and medicinal supplies. Together with the monastic community of hearers, he abides and dwells in the Kalanda Bamboo Grove in the Light Garden in the royal palace. At that time, in the city of the royal palace, King Rūpakāya was the king. During that time, there was prosperity, growth, happiness, good harvests, abundance of people, peace from strife and contention, cessation of war, internal strife, thieves, famine, and disease, and abundance of rice, sugarcane, cattle, and buffalo. There was no harm, and the kingdom was ruled as if protecting an only child. Then, when King Rūpakāya saw the truth from the Blessed One, he went to the Blessed One three times a day with his consort and retinue. Then, King Rūpakāya, one spring, when the trees were in bloom and the swans, cranes, peacocks, parrots, partridges, cuckoos, and orioles were singing in the forest, in the pleasure garden, with his virtuous consort and retinue.

and so on from there. There, the retinue of consorts reported to the king: O god, we are unable to go to the Blessed One like a single umbrella, so, O god, how about building a stupa of the Tathagata's hair and nails in this residence of the retinue of consorts to make offerings? However, we will always use lamps and incense and flowers and fragrances and garlands and unguents and umbrellas and banners and flags to pay homage to it. Then after a while, King Subhuti reported to the Blessed One: Blessed One, please grant me hair and nails. However, I will build a stupa of the Tathagata in the residence of the retinue of consorts and make offerings. Then after a while, after the Blessed One gave hair and nails, King Subhuti, together with the retinue of consorts, built a stupa of the Tathagata's hair and nails with great reverence in the residence of the retinue of consorts and made offerings, and the retinue of consorts also used lamps and incense and flowers and fragrances and garlands and unguents and umbrellas and banners and flags to make offerings. After that, when King Ajatasatru was bewitched by Devadatta and killed his father, who possessed the Dharma and ruled the country according to the Dharma, and ascended the throne himself, he cut off all the offerings that should be made to the Blessed One's teachings, and ordered that no one should pay homage to the Tathagata's stupa. After that, when the time came for the fifteenth full moon day, no one wiped the stupa of hair and nails, nor offered lamps and incense and flowers. After that, the retinue of consorts also saw that the stupa of hair and nails had become like that. They also remembered King Subhuti, and cried sadly, lamenting: Alas, separated from the king who possessed the Dharma, we have lost our merit. Among them, a consort named Auspicious Consort, at the cost of her own life, remembered the virtues of the Buddha.
