It will not mature in the earth element. It will not mature in the water element, the fire element, and the wind element. The virtuous and non-virtuous actions that have been done and accumulated will only mature in the aggregates, elements, and sense bases that have been taken up. The actions of sentient beings will not be eroded even in hundreds of kalpas. When they are gathered and the time has come, they will mature into their own fruit. Monks, in the past, in the past time, in this very Fortunate Aeon, when beings lived for forty thousand years, the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One, endowed with knowledge and conduct, Well-Gone, Knower of the World, Guide of Beings to be Tamed, Unsurpassed, Teacher of Gods and Humans, Buddha, Bhagavan, called "Turning Wheel," appeared in the world. He resided in the royal palace called "Beautiful." At that time, in that royal palace, a householder built a monastery. He thought that monks from various directions and places would come, go, and stay here. In that monastery, there lived an ordinary monk. He was very stingy with the dwelling, and when he saw newly arrived monks, he would get angry, quarrel, and harbor malice. He would sit there frowning and create disputes. When he saw those monks leaving the monastery, he would mostly be happy, very happy, send them off, and speak to them. Later, at some point, an Arhat monk came from some place. The owner of the monastery would not return. He recognized him as an Arhat through his conduct. Then, he felt joy and invited the Sangha of monks for a ceremonial bath and meal the next day. The original resident monk was not there, and after a while, the next day, the ceremonial bath was also offered, and the meal was also prepared, and the original resident monk also came. He also went to the ceremonial bathing place. He saw the owner of the monastery hurrying and taking care of the newly arrived monk. Then, he became jealous, and he harbored hatred.

With a mind of hatred, he spoke harsh words. "Bhikkhu, even though you are smeared with impure things, it is not right for you to receive the offerings of such a generous benefactor." Then, that arhat thought, "If I were to become even more unfortunate because of this, that would not be good," and silently accepted it. After some time, when the assembly gathered and morning arrived, that base bhikkhu heard it said, "You have generated hatred towards the arhat." Having heard this, he felt remorse. Then, that bhikkhu prostrated at the feet of the arhat, saying, "Venerable one, please forgive me for the harsh words I spoke to you." Then, that arhat, in order to generate faith in him, rose into the sky and displayed various kinds of miracles. Then, he felt even more remorse. Then, in front of him, he confessed and repented of the sins of his actions, and purified (his sins) by whipping himself. However, he was unable to generate ultimate wisdom. Then, after some time, when the time of death arrived, he made the aspiration: "May I not experience the ripening of the karma of generating hatred towards the arhat and speaking harsh words. May the ripening of the karma of my reading, reciting, giving, giving great gifts, and honoring the Sangha, in the future, please the Buddha, the Bhagavan." Bhikkhus, what do you think? At that time, at that moment, that person who became a base bhikkhu was this very dung heap. Because of the ripening of the karma of speaking harsh words to the arhat, he experienced endless suffering in samsara. Because of the remaining residue of that karma, even in his last existence, he became so filthy, extremely filthy, and fond of impure things and mud. Because of his recitation, his skill in the aggregates, his skill in the elements, his skill in the sources, his skill in dependent origination, and his skill in what is and is not, he renounced in my (Buddha's) teaching and abandoned all defilements.

Having directly realized the state of Arhat. Monks, therefore, you should train yourselves thus: You should strive to abandon stinginess. Why is that? Because in that way, the faults of being born in other places will not occur, and you will gain such a collection of qualities as attaining the state of Arhat. Monks, you should train yourselves thus. After the Blessed One had spoken thus, those monks and gods, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, mahoragas, and other beings rejoiced and highly praised what the Blessed One had said. The fifth verse of the "Hundred Jataka Tales" is complete. Sixth Verse The verses are: Black Snake and Moon, Sala Tree and Glorious Woman, Clothes and Parrot, Messenger, Buffalo and Fasting, Swan is the last said. Black Snake means: Buddha The Blessed One was honored by kings, great ministers, wealthy people, palace attendants, merchants, captains, gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas. He was respected, made a guru, painted, and offered to. The Buddha, the Blessed One, who was offered to and known by gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas, possessed great merit and obtained robes, food, bedding, cushions, medicine, and medical supplies. Together with the monastic community of hearers, he resided and stayed in the Bamboo Grove, Kalandaka, in Rajagriha. At that time, in the city of Rajagriha, there was a wealthy householder, rich in possessions and enjoying great wealth, possessing vast and extensive holdings, endowed with the wealth of Vaishravana, and rivaling the wealth of Vaishravana. However, he was stingy and miserly, holding on to all his possessions, not even giving alms to a crow. He did not respect ascetics, brahmins, the poor, the destitute, and beggars.
