In this way, he displayed miraculous powers, causing them to remember their situation. Then, the Blessed One, with a voice endowed with five qualities, spoke of the merits of offering: Whatever merit from this giving, May it follow the pretas like a shadow. May those pretas quickly be liberated From the world of great terror. Having said this, the Blessed One, based on that foundation, taught the Dharma that was in accordance with them. Having heard it, hundreds of thousands of beings abandoned the stain of miserliness and realized the truth. Those pretas also became delighted in their minds towards the Blessed One, and having died, were born in the good heavenly realm of the Thirty-Three. When a son or daughter of the gods is born, before long, by nature, three thoughts arise: From where did I die? Where was I born? By what karma was I born? They saw that they had died from the preta realm, were born in the good heavenly realm of the Thirty-Three, and were delighted in their minds towards the Blessed One. Then, those sons of the gods who had previously been pretas thought: If we wait until tomorrow to go to see the Blessed One, it will be too late. We should go to see the Blessed One before tomorrow. Then, those sons of the gods who had previously been pretas, wearing earrings and armlets that shimmered and swayed, their bodies adorned with necklaces and belts, wearing crowns adorned with various jewels, their bodies anointed with saffron, tamala leaves, and cardamom, etc., on that very night, filled baskets with heavenly utpala flowers, lotuses, water lilies, white lotuses, and mandaras, illuminating the grove of light where the kalandaka birds dwelt with great light all around. Then, they scattered flowers upon the Blessed One and came before the Blessed One to listen to the Dharma. Then, the Blessed One, having understood the thoughts, habits, dispositions, and inclinations of those sons of the gods who had previously been pretas, taught the Dharma that was in accordance with them. Having heard the Dharma, those sons of the gods who had previously been pretas obtained great benefit, becoming like merchants who had made a great profit. They circumambulated the Blessed One three times.

Then he immediately disappeared. There, the Blessed One said to the venerable Mahāmaudgalyāyana: "Maudgalyāyana, you have placed many pretas in the heavens, and they came to me last night. I taught them the Dharma, and they attained what should be attained, and attained what is to be seen. The advice you have given has been fruitful, well done, well done!" Then the venerable Mahāmaudgalyāyana also made their relatives aware of this. When they heard this, they were very amazed, and they rejoiced in the Blessed One and paid homage. Maudgalyāyana, therefore, you must strive to abandon stinginess so that such evils do not befall those pretas. After the Blessed One had spoken thus, the venerable Mahāmaudgalyāyana, as well as the gods, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, mahoragas, and others, rejoiced and praised what the Blessed One had said. The meaning of "Water's End" is: The kings, great ministers, wealthy people, palace attendants, merchants, captains, gods, nāgas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas all honored, revered, respected, and made offerings to the Buddha, the Blessed One. The gods, nāgas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas, making offerings and knowing the Buddha, the Blessed One, endowed with great merit, possessing robes, food, bedding, cushions, medicine, and other necessities, dwelt in the Bamboo Grove Kalandaka Vihara in Rajagriha, together with the monastic community of śrāvakas. At that time, in the city of Rajagriha, there lived a wealthy merchant, possessing great wealth and vast enjoyment, possessing wealth like that of Vaishravana, rivaling the wealth of Vaishravana. He took a wife from a family of equal status.

Then, he played with her and enjoyed happiness and joy. As he played and enjoyed happiness and joy, his wife became pregnant, and when she was eight or nine months pregnant, she gave birth to a son. They held a celebration for the birth of the son and began to consider what name to give the child. The relatives said, 'This child was born under the star 'Revati' (Tibetan: ཆུ་སྨད།), therefore he should be named 'Revati' (Tibetan: ཆུ་སྨད།).' Thus, they named him 'Revati' (Tibetan: ཆུ་སྨད།). Then, the child named 'Revati' (Tibetan: ཆུ་སྨད།) was raised and grew up, and when he grew up, his father died, and he became the master of his own house. Then, he started a business, engaging in buying and selling, and making a living from trading. One day, he went to the Blessed One. When he saw the Blessed One and heard the sacred Dharma, he developed faith in the teachings of the Blessed One and developed the thought of renunciation. He pleaded with his mother, 'Mother, please allow me to renounce and join the teachings of the Blessed One.' Then, his mother said, 'Child, you are the only son, do not renounce while I am still alive. After I die, do whatever you want.' Revati (Tibetan: ཆུ་སྨད།) also gave everything he earned to his mother, and said, 'Mother, please give these as alms to monks, Brahmins, the poor, the destitute, and beggars.'
