He was pleasing to look at and beautiful, possessing all limbs and features. He had an only son named Beautiful Face, who was pitiful and poor, but very lovable, pleasing to the heart, endowed with patience, and without fault. Then, one day, King Good Form became desirous of the Dharma, so he gathered all the ministers and said: O leaders of the country, I desire the Dharma, seek the Dharma for me! Then, those ministers joined their palms and reported: Great King, the Dharma is rare, only when the Buddha appears in the world will the Dharma arise. Then, the king hung a vessel containing a hundred thousand gold coins on the top of the royal banner, and proclaimed throughout the country: Whoever in my country can speak the Dharma, I will give this vessel containing a hundred thousand gold coins to him. He should also be honored and praised with great respect. Thus it was done. After a long time, no one who spoke the Dharma appeared. Then, the king grieved and despaired for the sake of the Dharma. The lord of the gods, Indra, had the eye of wisdom that knows the lower realms. Seeing the king distressed for the sake of the Dharma, he thought: I should test King Good Form. Then, he transformed himself into a yaksha with ugly limbs and eyes, and while the king was sitting with his retinue, he said: Do you desire the Dharma? I can teach you the Dharma. Then, the king heard the sound of the Dharma and was delighted, exceedingly delighted, and said to the yaksha: Secret one, speak the Dharma, I will listen. The yaksha said: Alas, great king, one who is comfortable and at ease can speak the Dharma, but I am tormented by hunger, give me food! Then, the king heard this and ordered those who lived on milk porridge to bring all kinds of food. The yaksha said: I only eat and drink freshly killed flesh and blood, give me your only son, Beautiful Face. Then, the king heard this and became very displeased, thinking: If I could encounter the sound of the Dharma once again in a hundred paths, it would be priceless and must be bought. Then, the youth Beautiful Face...

Having heard this, the son prostrated at his father's feet and prayed, saying: God, please forgive me, fulfill God's will, and grant me as a secret food. Then, the king gave his only son, whom he loved and cherished, who was dear to his heart and pleasing, who was patient and without opposition, to the Yaksha for the sake of the Dharma. Then, the Yaksha, by the power of his magical abilities, showed the king and his retinue how he cut the child's limbs piece by piece and ate them, and also drank the blood. When the king saw this, he did not feel displeased because he desired the Dharma. Then, the Yaksha said to the king: King, I am not full yet, give me more. The king then gave his beloved wife to him. Then, the Yaksha showed that he ate her in the same way. Then, he said to the king again: Alas, King, I am still not full. Then, the king said to the Yaksha: Son, I have already given my only son and my beloved wife, what else do you want? The Yaksha said: Give me your own body, and then I will be full. The king said: If I give you my own body, how will I listen to the Dharma? First, preach the Dharma to me, and after I have heard the Dharma, I will completely give up my own body. Then, the Yaksha made the king take an oath, and then in front of hundreds and thousands of retinues, he preached the Dharma: Sorrow is born of affection, Fear is born of affection, Those who are liberated from fear, Where is the fear if there is no sorrow? Then, as soon as the king heard these verses, his heart immediately felt extremely peaceful, and joy and comfort arose, and then he said to the Yaksha: Yaksha, do with my body as you please. Then, the king of the gods, Indra, saw that the king's mind towards the unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment was as unshakable as Mount Sumeru, so he made the Yaksha's form disappear. Appearing in his own form, with eyes full of joy and radiance, holding his son in one hand and his wife in the other, he made the king happy and said: Good man, well done, well done, you

With steadfast armor of diligence, before long, one will realize the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment and become a Buddha. It was said, 'Meeting with your beloved one is also this.' Then, the king said to Indra, the lord of the gods, 'Kauśika, I have perfected my contemplation of the Dharma, excellent, excellent!' The Blessed One taught, 'Monks, what do you think? At that time, the one who was the king named Fair-Form was me. The handsome youth was Ānanda. The beautiful maiden was Fame-Holder Mother. Monks, even at that time, I gave up relatives and gave up my own life for the sake of the Dharma, what need is there to mention now? Monks, therefore, you should train like this: Respect the Dharma. Honor it. Rely on it. Make offerings to it. Having respected the Dharma, honored it, relied on it, and made offerings to it, abide relying on it. Monks, you should train like that.' After the Blessed One taught in this way, the monks rejoiced and praised the words of the Blessed One. The hundred narratives such as the Damamūka-nidāna, the ninth fascicle, which is called "The Friend's Daughter": The Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, were revered, honored, relied upon, and offered to by kings, great ministers, wealthy people, people of the palace retinue, merchants, captains, gods, nāgas, yakṣas, asuras, garuḍas, kinnaras, and mahoragas. The Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, who were offered to and known by gods, nāgas, yakṣas, asuras, garuḍas, kinnaras, and mahoragas, possessed great merit, and having obtained robes, food, bedding, seats, medicines for the sick, and medicinal supplies, together with the community of śrāvakas, resided in Śrāvastī, in the Jeta Grove of Prince Jeta, in the garden of Anāthapiṇḍada. There, the Blessed One
