Hearing the words of those (patients) crying pitifully "Jé Jé" and groaning "Dudu", his heart was moved with compassion, and tears streamed down his face as he wept. He thought, "If I cannot pacify the suffering of others, what is the use of my life and such royal power?" Thinking thus, the king gave away vast amounts of wealth, installed his eldest son as king, confessed his faults to his relatives and the people, praised the palace attendants and ministers, comforted the suffering patients, and properly took the eight-fold vows. Then he went to the top of the palace, burned incense, scattered flowers, perfumes, garlands, and unguents, and faced east to make a prayer: "By the truth and the words of truth, when sentient beings become extremely impoverished and are completely tormented by disease, I have completely given up my life without regret. By this truth and these words of truth, may I be born in this river called 'Chuklong Zlok' (Blocking the Current) as a fish named Rohita!" Having said this, he jumped from the top of the palace. As soon as he fell, he died and was reborn in the 'Chuklong Zlok' (Blocking the Current) river as a great fish named Rohita. Then the gods proclaimed in all places, "This great fish named Rohita has been born in the 'Chuklong Zlok' (Blocking the Current) river, and it is like nectar for those who have long suffered from severe diseases." As soon as they heard this, many people immediately took up weapons and baskets, dug into the river, and began to cut the flesh of that living fish with various sharp weapons. As the Bodhisattva's body was being cut in this way, he was filled with loving-kindness towards those sentient beings, and warm tears streamed down his face. He thought, "My flesh and blood will bring happiness to these sentient beings, I have truly gained a great benefit." In this way, for twelve years, he satisfied those sentient beings with his own flesh and blood, but he never turned away from unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. When the diseases of those sentient beings were pacified,

At that time, the great fish Rohita proclaimed, "O sentient beings, listen! I am the one called King Padma, and for your sake, I have completely given up my life and taken such a body. Please rejoice in me, and when I attain the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, I will also liberate you forever from illness, attain the ultimate of Nirvana's peace, and enjoy happiness." Having heard this, those crowds of people, the king, the ministers, and the palace attendants gained faith, offered flowers, garlands, and ointments, and prayed, "You who perform such difficult deeds, when you attain the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, may we become your Shravaka disciples." The Blessed One said, "O monks, what do you think? The one who became King Padma at that time was me. Because I made such a giving, I experienced boundless happiness when I wandered in Samsara. Now, when I attain the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, my stomach fire is balanced and possesses digestive power. Therefore, what I eat, drink, chew, and taste is well and comfortably digested. I am without illness and harm, and I have become one with the nature of being without illness. O monks, therefore, you should train like this: you should cultivate compassion for all sentient beings. O monks, you should train like that." After the Blessed One spoke thus, the monks rejoiced and praised what the Blessed One had said. Khamre means: such as kings, great ministers, wealthy people, palace attendants, merchants, captains, gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas, all to the Buddha Bhagavan...
