So it is. Then, those rays of light circled the three thousand great thousand worlds, following the Blessed One like a shadow. If the Blessed One wished to prophesy past actions, they would not appear on the hem of the Blessed One's robe. If he wished to prophesy future actions, they would not appear in front. If he wished to prophesy that beings would be born in hell, they would not appear on the soles of his feet. If he wished to prophesy that they would be born as animals, they would not appear on the heels of his feet. If he wished to prophesy that they would be born as pretas, they would not appear on his big toes. If he wished to prophesy that they would be born as humans, they would not appear on his two knees. If he wished to prophesy that they would become a wheel-turning king of strength, they would not appear on the palm of his left hand. If he wished to prophesy that they would become a wheel-turning king, they would not appear on the palm of his right hand. If he wished to prophesy that they would be born in the heavens, they would not appear on his navel. If he wished to prophesy that they would attain the enlightenment of a Shravaka, they would not appear on his face. If he wished to prophesy that they would attain the enlightenment of a Pratyekabuddha, they would not appear on the hair between his eyebrows. If he wished to prophesy that they would attain the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, they would not appear on the crown of his head. Then, those rays of light circled the Blessed One three times and disappeared into the hair between the Blessed One's eyebrows. Then, the venerable Ananda, with his palms joined, asked the Blessed One: "Various lights, interwoven with a thousand colors, many have come forth from the door of your mouth, they illuminate all directions, just as the rising sun does." Again, he asked in verse: "The Buddha, free from agitation, not delighting in gluttony, having abandoned carelessness, is the supreme cause for beings. The victorious conquerors do not show a smile like the root of a lotus or the color of a conch shell without a cause or condition. Since you, with steadfast wisdom, know the opportune time, monks, kings, listeners, and those seeking doubt, please listen to the supreme words of the Lion of the Sage, which are steadfast."

And, I pray that the virtuous ones dispel their doubts. The protectors, the perfect Buddhas, who are as stable as the ocean and Mount Sumeru, do not usually show a smile. For what reason, O Hero, do you show a smile? For that reason, please listen to what is born of most people. The Blessed One said: Ananda, it is so. Ananda, it is so. Ananda, the Tathagatas, the Arhats, the perfectly enlightened Buddhas, do not smile without cause or reason. Ananda, do you see that this monk named Remembrance has made my heart rejoice? Venerable one, I see it. Ananda, this Remembrance, by accumulating roots of virtue, generating the mind of enlightenment, and completely giving away what should be given, will become a Pratyekabuddha named Transcendence of Samsara in the future. The reason for his giving away what should be given is that he has developed faith in my mind. Monks, therefore, you should train yourselves in this way: tell the monks that they should respect the Buddha, the Pratyekabuddhas, and the Shravakas. After the Blessed One had spoken thus, the monks rejoiced and praised the words of the Blessed One. The chapter called "Fragrant Aroma Rising": The kings, great ministers, wealthy people, palace attendants, merchants, captains, gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas all paid homage to the Buddha, the Blessed One, revered him as their teacher, offered paintings, and made offerings. The Buddha, the Blessed One, who was offered to and known by the gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas, possessed great merit and had obtained robes, food, bedding, cushions, medicine, and medicinal supplies. Together with the Sangha of Shravakas, he resided in the Bamboo Grove of Kalandaka in the Radiant Garden in Rajagriha. At that time, the people living in the central region, according to custom, mostly used various fragrances to anoint their bodies.

Then, after some time, there was a son of a householder who had a maidservant who was faithful, virtuous, and of good mind, and she was grinding red sandalwood. The Blessed One also, in the morning, having put on his undergarment and robes, and carrying his bowl, attended by a gathering of monks, the monastic community of monks ground in front and went to Rajagriha (present-day Rajgir, Bihar) for alms. Then, that girl saw the Buddha, the Blessed One, whose body was well adorned with the thirty-two marks of a great man, beautified by the eighty excellent signs, adorned with a fathom of light, possessing light surpassing a thousand suns, like a moving mountain of jewels, all good. Having seen him, that girl generated great faith. Then, having found faith, she thought to herself: Although I have found such a field, I cannot show respect to the Blessed One because of the fault of poverty, what need is there for such a life as mine? Then, without even looking at her own life, she smeared both her hands with red sandalwood and rubbed them on the two feet of the Blessed One. The Blessed One also, by means of miraculous power, filled the entire city of Rajagriha with the scent of sandalwood. Then, having seen that miracle, the girl became happy in her heart, prostrated at the feet of the Blessed One, and with conviction in her heart, said: May I, by this root of virtue, generation of the mind of enlightenment, and the complete giving of the Dharma, realize the enlightenment of a self-Buddha. Then, the Blessed One smiled. This is the nature of the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, when they smile, at that time, blue, yellow, red, and white rays of light came forth from his face, some went downwards, some went upwards. Those that went downwards were those sentient beings in the Reviving Hell, the Black Line Hell, the Crushing Hell, the Crying Hell, the Great Crying Hell, the Hot Hell, the Very Hot Hell, the Uninterrupted Hell, the Blister Hell, the Bursting Blister Hell, the Gnashing Teeth Hell, the Kyi-hud Saying Hell, the Achu Saying Hell, the hell that cracks like an উৎপল flower, the hell that cracks like a lotus, the hell that cracks like a great lotus.
