It will not mature in the earth element. It will not mature in the water, fire, and wind elements. The virtuous and non-virtuous actions that have been done and accumulated will only mature in the aggregates, elements, and sense bases that have been taken up. The actions of sentient beings, even for a hundred eons, will not be eroded. Once they are accumulated and the time has come, they will mature into their fruit. Monks, in the distant past, ninety-one eons ago, there appeared in the world a Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened Buddha, endowed with knowledge and conduct, Well-Gone, Knower of the World, Unsurpassed, Tamer of Beings, Teacher of Gods and Humans, Buddha, Blessed One, named Vipashyin. Then, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha Vipashyin resided in the royal palace called Kinsman. Then, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha Vipashyin, in the early morning, having put on his undergarment and Dharma robes, and carrying his bowl, attended by a retinue of monks, with the monastic community of monks leading the way, went to the royal palace of Kinsman for alms. A caravan leader also entered the street carrying a lotus flower. Then, he saw the Perfectly Awakened Buddha Vipashyin, whose body was well adorned with the thirty-two marks of a great being, beautified by the eighty minor marks, radiant with light, possessing light surpassing a thousand suns, like a walking mountain of jewels, beautiful in every way. As soon as he saw him, he immediately threw the lotus flower on the Blessed One. As soon as it was thrown, the lotus flower immediately became as large as a chariot wheel on the Blessed One. When the Blessed One walked, the lotus flower also walked; when the Blessed One stood, the lotus flower also stood. Then, after a while, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha Vipashyin prophesied that the caravan leader would attain enlightenment. Then, he was happy and very pleased, and returned to his own home. At that time, his wife was giving birth, uttering painful groans. He asked the maid what was happening. The maid told him the same. Then, that caravan leader became unhappy.

Then he prayed, saying: May I never be born in the womb of a mother in samsara. The Blessed One said: Monks, what do you think? At that time, the one who was the caravan leader was that Pratyekabuddha with ten heads. By that root of virtue, for ninety-one kalpas, he was never born in the womb of a mother. In his last existence, he also obtained the same wealth. Monks, therefore, you should train like this: You should say to the monks, 'You should respect the Buddhas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Shravakas.' The Blessed One said this, and the monks rejoiced and praised what the Blessed One had said. The text called "Soft Complexion" is: Kings, great ministers, wealthy people, palace attendants, merchants, caravan leaders, gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas all showed respect to the Buddha, the Blessed One, honored him as their teacher, made images of him, and made offerings to him. The Buddha, the Blessed One, who was offered to and known by gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas, possessed great merit and obtained robes, food, bedding, cushions, medicine, and medical supplies. Together with the Sangha of Shravakas, he was dwelling in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove of Prince Jeta, in the garden of Anathapindika. At that time, in Shravasti, there was a wealthy merchant who was rich and had great possessions and enjoyments, many possessions and implements, many servants and dependents, and many friends, ministers, relatives, and elders. That householder was also endowed with faith, virtuous and with good intentions, engaged in benefiting himself and others, having great compassion, having great integrity, and desiring the Dharma. Then he thought to himself: These enjoyments are like the nature of a water moon, like a mirage, impermanent, unstable, not lasting, unreliable, and changing.
