They also pray to the gods, the gods who receive sacrificial offerings, the co-born gods, the Dharma-abiding gods, and the gods who always attend. In the world, there is a saying that sons and daughters are born through prayer, but that is not the case. If prayer could truly produce sons and daughters, then like a Chakravartin king, each person should have a thousand sons. In reality, the birth of sons and daughters is the result of the combination of three factors. What are these three factors? The two parents, filled with desire, come together; the mother is in her fertile period and has her menstruation; and a Gandharva arrives. It is the combination of these three factors that leads to the birth of sons and daughters. They were diligently engaged in prayer. In their garden, there was a large pond filled with Utpala flowers, lotuses, water lilies, and white lotuses, adorned with various birds such as swans, ducks, and ruddy shelducks, making it very beautiful. In that pond, an extraordinarily large lotus suddenly grew, and it grew rapidly day by day, but it never opened. Then, the guardian of the garden reported this to the king. The king also ordered that the lotus be carefully guarded. Later, one day at sunrise, the lotus opened, and in the heart of the lotus, there appeared a handsome, pleasing, beautiful, and fair-skinned boy with a golden complexion. His head was like an umbrella, his arms were long, his forehead was broad, his nose was high, his nose was well-shaped, his eyebrows were thick, and his body was adorned with the thirty-two major marks of a great man and beautified by the eighty minor marks. He was sitting in the lotus position. The guardian of the garden also reported this to the king. Upon hearing this, the king, along with his ministers and consorts, went to the garden and saw the boy in the heart of the lotus, so beautiful. Upon seeing him, they were delighted, satisfied, and overjoyed, and joy and happiness arose in their hearts. They entered the pond, picked up the boy, and with great reverence, took him to their palace and informed the ascetics, Brahmins, and diviners, saying:

Between the seventh three and the twenty-first, a grand birth celebration was held, and he was named "Ten Heads." Then, the infant Ten Heads was entrusted to eight wet nurses: two who nurtured him in their laps, two who fed him milk, two who washed away his dirt, and two who played with him. These eight wet nurses raised him with milk, yogurt, butter, melted butter, the essence of butter, and all sorts of other excellent provisions, so that he grew vigorously like a lotus in a lake. That boy was also endowed with faith, had good and virtuous thoughts, engaged in benefiting himself and others, had great compassion, had a noble character, desired the Dharma, and was kind to all beings. When he saw his father sitting on the throne, doing deeds both with and without fault, the boy was displeased and pleaded with his father, 'Father, please allow me to be ordained and practice the well-spoken Dharma and Vinaya.' The father also granted his request, so he shaved his hair and beard, put on colored robes, and with genuine faith, left home and became a renunciate. Then, without receiving prophecies, he manifested the thirty-seven dharmas in harmony with the path to enlightenment, directly realized the enlightenment of a Pratyekabuddha, and rose into the sky, displaying various miracles to his father. Then, his father invited him to a feast for three months. Then, he became completely weary of clinging to the body, and after displaying various miracles, he passed into Nirvana like a fire that has consumed its fuel, and this is his stupa. Then, the monks became doubtful and asked the Buddha, the Bhagavan, who cuts off all doubts, 'Venerable One, what deeds did the Pratyekabuddha Ten Heads do that he was not born from a mother's womb, but was born from a lotus?' The Bhagavan replied, 'Monks, Ten Heads himself, in other past lives, accumulated merit and possessed complete conditions, and because he did and accumulated those deeds that come like a flood and cannot be avoided, how could someone else experience those deeds that Ten Heads himself did and accumulated? Monks, the deeds that have been done and accumulated are on the outer earth.'
