The unsurpassed one, the teacher of gods and humans, the Buddha Bhagavan named Taming the Powerful One appeared in the world. He traveled through various regions and came to the vicinity of a royal palace. That vicinity of the royal palace was also controlled by non-Buddhists. Then, the king who was crowned from the crown of the royal family heard that the perfectly complete Buddha, Taming the Powerful One, had come to my country. After hearing this, possessing the great wealth of a king and the great power of a king, he went to where the perfectly complete Buddha, Taming the Powerful One, was, and upon arriving, he bowed his head to the feet of the Bhagavan, the perfectly complete Buddha, Taming the Powerful One, and sat to one side. After sitting to one side, the king who was crowned from the crown of the royal family was placed by the perfectly complete Buddha, Taming the Powerful One, in the Dharma that leads to the attainment of Bodhi. Then, the king who was crowned from the crown of the royal family rose from his seat, draped his upper garment over one shoulder, knelt on his right knee, and with his palms joined together, he addressed the perfectly complete Buddha, Taming the Powerful One, saying: "Bhagavan, I wish to offer robes, food, bedding, cushions, medicine, and medical supplies to the Bhagavan. Would the Bhagavan allow me to stay here for three months together with the Sangha of monks?" The Bhagavan replied: "Great King, in your country, are there any monasteries suitable for monks who come and go unexpectedly?" The king replied: "Bhagavan, there are none at present, but please allow me, Bhagavan, to build a monastery suitable for monks who come and go unexpectedly." Then, the king had a monastery built for the sake of the Tathagata, complete with walls, horse ramps, windows, and all doors, decorated with parasols, crescent moons, and railings, equipped with cushions, and surrounded by ponds.

I made a circumambulation with many trees, flowers, and fruits. Having done so, I offered it to the Blessed One along with the assembly of Śrāvakas. Then I requested the Blessed One to perform great miracles. Then, after the king requested, the Blessed One, the perfectly complete Buddha, the Vanquisher of Sovereignty, displayed the great miracle of playing in the form of a great Buddha. Therefore, the king, ministers, townspeople, villagers, and all the people of the palace retinue were delighted and cherished the protection of the teachings. Monks, what do you think? Who was the king at that time? It was I. By the ripening of the karma of making such offerings to the perfectly complete Buddha, the Vanquisher of Sovereignty, I experienced infinite happiness in Saṃsāra. Now, even when I have become a Tathāgata, my teachings have become beautiful. Monks, therefore, you should train like this: Respect the teacher. Honor (him). Revere (him). Make offerings (to him). Having respected, honored, revered, and made offerings to the teacher, abide in reliance. Monks, you should train like this. After the Blessed One spoke these words, those monks rejoiced and greatly praised what the Blessed One had said. The fifth chapter is called: The kings, great ministers, wealthy people, people of the palace retinue, merchants, captains, gods, nāgas, yakṣas, asuras, garuḍas, kinnaras, and mahoragas revered, honored, respected, and made offerings to the Buddha, the Blessed One. The Buddha, the Blessed One, who is known and worshipped by gods, nāgas, yakṣas, asuras, garuḍas, kinnaras, and mahoragas, is endowed with great merit, and has obtained robes, food, bedding, seats, medicines, and medical supplies, together with the assembly of Śrāvakas, in the radiant (city) of Rājagṛha.
