Please grant coal. Then, the Brahmins and householders of the reed thicket prayed to the Blessed One, saying: Blessed One, please come here and deliver us from this poverty and misery. At that time, there was nothing that the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, did not know, did not see, did not understand, or did not comprehend. The Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, possessed great compassion, were engaged in benefiting the world, possessed a unique protector, were uniquely brave, incomparable, did not speak in two ways, dwelled in tranquility and insight, manifested the three knowledges, were well-trained in the three trainings, were skilled in the three bases of discipline, had crossed the four rivers, had extremely firm soles of the feet of the four miraculous legs, had long been familiar with the four objects of collection, were fearless with the four fearlessnesses, proclaimed the great lion's roar of the supreme leader, had completely abandoned the five branches, had completely transcended the five destinies, possessed six branches, had perfected the six perfections, dwelled in the six things to be constantly dwelled in, were rich with the flowers of the seven branches of enlightenment, taught the eightfold path, were skilled in the nine successive attainments, possessed the power of the ten powers, were completely expanded by fame in the ten directions, and were far more excellent than those who wield power over a hundredfold. By their very nature, three times during the day and three times during the night, they gazed upon the world with the eye of a Buddha, thinking: Who is declining? Who is prospering? Who is impoverished? Who is suffering? Who is afflicted with harm? Who is impoverished, suffering, and afflicted with harm? Who is inclined towards the lower realms? Who is falling into the lower realms? Who has fallen into the lower realms? Who shall I rescue from the lower realms and place in the heavens, liberation, and fruition? Who is sinking in the swamp of desire, whom shall I pull out by the hand? Who lacks the seven noble riches, whom shall I cause to possess the power of the seven noble riches? Who has not generated roots of virtue, whom shall I cause to generate? Who has already generated roots of virtue, whom shall I cause to fully mature? Who has fully matured, whom shall I liberate?

Entering the Wisdom Gaze. Here it is said: The ocean is the abode of aquatic creatures, even though the waves may sometimes recede. For the beings to be tamed, the Buddha does not miss the opportune time. Then, the Blessed One, in the early morning, having put on his lower garment and robes, and carrying his bowl, attended by the assembly of monks, with the monastic community of monks leading the way, went to the reed grove. Then, the Blessed One pervaded all the people of the city with loving-kindness, and thus the non-humans retreated, and the plague subsided. Then, those Brahmins and householders, seeing the Blessed One, generated great joy. Having generated joy, they offered to the Blessed One and his community of Shravakas, robes, food, bedding, cushions, medicines for the sick, and medicinal supplies, opening the opportunity for whatever they wished. Then, the Blessed One taught them the Dharma in such a way that they would realize the Four Noble Truths. Having heard this, many Brahmins and householders attained the fruit of stream-entry. Some attained the fruit of once-returning. Some attained the fruit of non-returning. Some then renounced, abandoning all defilements, and directly realized the state of Arhatship. Some generated the mind of Shravaka Bodhi. Some generated the mind of Pratyekabuddha Bodhi. Some generated the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete Bodhi. All the people of the city were established in taking refuge in the Buddha, taking refuge in the Dharma, and taking refuge in the Sangha. Then, the monks arose with doubt, and asked the Buddha, the Blessed One, who cuts off all doubts: Venerable One, it is wonderful that these sentient beings have generated such joy in the Blessed One, and thus have been liberated from poverty. The Blessed One said: Monks, the Tathagata himself, in other lifetimes in the past, has accumulated merit and possessed the completed conditions, and like crossing a difficult ford, has done and accumulated deeds that will inevitably occur, so who else can experience those deeds that I have done and accumulated?
