And arranged in the Sangha. Then, the monks became doubtful, and in order to dispel all doubts, they asked the Blessed One: Venerable, these merchants, after being saved by the Blessed One from the solitary place, at the moment of generating intention, great rain fell, and the hail also stopped, it is very wonderful. The Blessed One said: Monks, the Tathagata himself has accumulated merits and possessed the conditions in other past lives, appearing like crossing a torrent, and having done and accumulated those things that will not be devoured by ghosts and spirits, who will experience the karma that I have done and accumulated? Monks, the deeds done and accumulated will not mature in the external realm of earth, nor will they mature in the realms of water, fire, and wind, but the virtuous and non-virtuous deeds done and accumulated will only mature in the aggregates, realms, and sources that are clung to. The deeds of sentient beings will not disappear even after hundreds of thousands of kalpas. When the accumulation matures and the time arrives, it will naturally mature into fruition. Monks, in the past, there appeared a Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One, endowed with knowledge and conduct, Well-Gone, Knower of the World, Guide of beings to be tamed, Unsurpassed, Teacher of gods and humans, Buddha, Blessed One, named Chandana, who appeared in the world. Then, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha Chandana, after wandering, came near a royal palace, and the king who was enthroned from the head of the royal family went to the place where the Perfectly Awakened Buddha Chandana was, and after arriving, bowed to the feet of the Perfectly Awakened Buddha Chandana with his head, and then sat to one side. After sitting to one side, the king who was enthroned from the head of the royal family was placed by the Blessed One in the Dharma that leads to the attainment of Bodhi. Then, the king who was enthroned from the head of the royal family rose from his seat, bared one shoulder, knelt on his right knee, respectfully

The perfectly enlightened Buddha Chandanagalabha, having folded his palms in reverence, entreated the perfectly enlightened Buddha Chandana, saying: "Blessed One, would you grant permission to stay with the monastic community of monks in this royal palace vicinity for three months?" Then, the perfectly enlightened Buddha Chandana, without saying anything to the king, granted permission. At that time, a great drought occurred, causing the rivers and wells to have little water, and the trees also became without flowers and fruit. Then, the king prayed to the perfectly enlightened Buddha Chandana, saying: "Blessed One, I beseech you to allow me to build a pond filled with scented water in this city, so that the Blessed One and the monastic community of Shravakas may bathe there. If the Blessed One bathes in this way, I hope that rain will fall in my country." Then, the Blessed One, the perfectly enlightened Buddha Chandana, without saying anything to the king, granted permission. Then, the king, who had been crowned from the royal lineage, said to the ministers: "Prepare scented water and precious vases, and with them I will bathe the Buddha, the Blessed One, and the monastic community of Shravakas." Then, the king, together with his retinue of ministers, cleared the city of stones, rubble, and gravel, and raised banners and flags. Scattered various flowers, Sprinkled with scented water, Fumigated with various incenses, And had a pond built in the center. Then, the Blessed One, the perfectly enlightened Buddha Chandana, for the benefit of sentient beings, put on bathing cloths and entered the pond. Then, the king, along with his retinue of ministers, bathed the Blessed One, the perfectly enlightened Buddha Chandana, and the monastic community of Shravakas with water soaked in various fragrances.

Furthermore, having found faith in the Buddha, the Bhagavan, they did not build stupas smeared with incense but cremated [the bodies]. There, all those who had taken refuge in the perfectly complete Buddha Candana, all of them had completely passed beyond sorrow, and among them, only I remained. Monks, therefore, you should train yourselves in this way: "We shall respect the teacher, we shall regard him as our master, we shall regard him as an image, we shall make offerings to him. Having respected the teacher, regarded him as our master, regarded him as an image, and made offerings to him, we shall dwell in reliance." Monks, you should train yourselves in this way. The Bhagavan having spoken thus, those monks rejoiced and greatly praised what the Bhagavan had said. Now, concerning the disease called "plague": The Buddha, the Bhagavan, was revered by kings, great ministers, wealthy people, people of the palace retinue, merchants, captains, gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas, and was regarded as a master, regarded as an image, and offered to. The Buddha, the Bhagavan, who was offered to and known by gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas, possessed great merit, and had obtained robes, food, bedding, seats, medicines for the sick, and medicinal supplies, resided together with the monastic community of hearers, dwelling in the Bamboo Grove, the Kalandaka place, in Rajagriha. At that time, many people in the village of Nadika were afflicted with disease, and many of those people were brought to the brink of death by the disease. They prayed to thousands of gods, such as Gulang, the water god, Kubera, and Indra, but the plague did not subside. Then, a lay follower living in the village of Nadika said to the Brahmins and householders of Nadika: "Come, take refuge in the Buddha, and invite the Bhagavan to come here, and pray that the Bhagavan may pacify the plague with the least effort."
