Even having become smoke, after fasting for six days, on the seventh day, he completely passed into nirvana in the realm of nirvana where there were no remains of ashes. The Blessed One said: Monks, this virtuous one, in other previous lives, accumulated merit and possessed the complete conditions, like a flood coming. Because he did and accumulated those actions that would not be wasted, who else would experience those actions done and accumulated by this virtuous one? Monks, the actions done and accumulated will not mature in the external realm of earth, nor will they mature in the realm of water, fire, or wind, but the virtuous and non-virtuous actions done and accumulated will only mature on the aggregates, realms, and sources that are grasped. The actions of sentient beings, even for hundreds of kalpas, will not be lost. When the conditions are gathered and the time arrives, they will mature into their own fruit. Monks, in the past, in the city of Varanasi, there was a householder's wife who was faithful, virtuous, and had a good mind. She constantly gave alms to renunciates, brahmins, the poor, the afflicted, and beggars. Later, her husband died, and after some time, her son became the master of the house. He was miserly, stingy, attached to possessions, and would not even give offerings to crows. When he saw renunciates, brahmins, the poor, the afflicted, and beggars, he became angry in his heart. His mother, as before, gave alms and abundant alms to renunciates, brahmins, the poor, the afflicted, and beggars. Then, that son, overwhelmed by miserliness, said: Mother, do not give alms without faith. She said: Son, in this house, it is the custom of the house to do so. Then she set aside a portion of food separately, but even so, she gave half of the food as alms, and ate half herself. Then, that person whose mind was overwhelmed by miserliness and obscured by anger repeatedly stopped her, wondering by what means

Even if he tried to stop her, he couldn't, so he said to his mother: Mother, there is something to do, please go to the depths of the house. Then, the naturally upright mother went to the depths of the house. Then, he closed the door and cut off her food for a day, and she said: Son, I am hungry. Then, he spoke harsh words, saying: Go lick the ashes. Then, after a while, that miserable, uncomfortable, and harmed person, let out a pitiful wail, but was still made to fast for six days, and was not released until she died. However, that person blinded by avarice, had no regret about being separated from his mother. The Blessed One said: Monks, what do you think? At that time, the one who was the son of the householder was this Tegu Sa, who, due to the ripening of the karma of harming his mother, was born in the great sentient hell, Avici, for one kalpa. For that very reason, even though he has now directly realized Arhatship, he has completely passed away from suffering by fasting and eating ashes. Monks, Tegu Sa also did and accumulated other karmas. Monks, in the past, in the city of Varanasi, there was a Brahmin who relied on the gods, a Brahmin who lived in Varanasi, and the householders and all the people, universally respected, regarded as a guru, performed rituals, offered, and revered him. According to the Dharma, when the Buddhas do not appear in the world, the solitary Buddhas will have compassion for the poor and afflicted, live in remote places, and appear in the world as the sole objects of offering. After some time, a solitary Buddha went to Varanasi to beg for alms, and he filled his hands and his bowl there, and when he came out, he was seen by that Brahmin. He became avaricious and said: Bring the bowl here. The Shravakas and solitary Buddhas do not allow knowledge without thinking, and that venerable one showed it. Then, he poured the food on the ground and stepped on it. Then, even though that solitary Buddha was fasting, that Brahmin did not feel regret. Monks, what do you think? At that time, the one who was the Brahmin was this Tegu Sa.
