Whoever became his son was this Guardian of the Land. The Guardian of the Land also performed and accumulated other actions. Monks, in the past, in a past time, in the city of Varanasi, there lived a Brahmin who made a living by digging roots. Once, he had finished digging roots and was wandering in the forest, where he saw a sick Pratyekabuddha. Then he developed faith and attended to him, and when his illness was cured, he also offered food and prayed: May I also attain such qualities! May I please a teacher who is even more excellent than this! May I not displease him! The Blessed One said: Monks, what do you think? At that time, the Brahmin who dug roots was this Guardian of the Land. Due to the maturation of that action, he never experienced suffering in samsara, and now he is born into a wealthy royal family. He is handsome, pleasing to look at, and beautiful. For that very reason, he has directly realized Arhatship. Monks, therefore, actions that are definitely black will definitely have black maturation. Actions that are definitely white will definitely have white maturation. Mixed actions will have mixed maturation. Monks, therefore, one should abandon actions that are definitely black and mixed actions, and one should focus only on actions that are definitely white. Monks, you should train yourselves in this way. The Blessed One spoke thus, and the monks rejoiced and praised what the Blessed One had said. The ninth chapter of the hundredfold compilation of stories of realization, including Ganga, is completed. The tenth chapter of the summary verses. The summary is: Rabjor and the old man, the one with hands and the one who reverently nourishes, Samsara and the one who hides, the ugly one and the one from the Ganges, the long-nailed one and the truly suffering one, are taught in the divisions. The so-called Rabjor is when kings and others to the Buddha, the Blessed One

The great ministers, the wealthy, the people of the palace, the merchants, the captains, the gods, the nagas, the yakshas, the asuras, the garudas, the kinnaras, and the great belly-crawlers all paid homage, revered as teachers, made images, and made offerings. The Blessed One, endowed with great merit, who was worshipped and known by the gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and great belly-crawlers, having obtained robes, food, bedding, cushions, medicine, and medical supplies, was dwelling in Jeta Grove, in the garden of Anathapindika, in Shravasti, together with the monastic community of shravakas. Then, when the Blessed One attained unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and appointed the shravakas in order to benefit the beings to be tamed in various regions, those who were meditators were dwelling, absorbed in meditation, on the terraces of Mount Meru. Then, once, the king of birds, Beautiful Wings, took a dragon child from the great ocean, threw it onto the terraces of Mount Meru, and began to eat it. Then, as the dragon child was dying, it generated joy in the great shravakas and died. After it died, it was reborn in Shravasti, in the womb of the great wife of a brahmin named Wealthy. After eight or nine months, a son was born, and a boy was born who was handsome, lovely to look at, and beautiful. Then, after holding a birth celebration, they discussed what name to give the boy. The relatives said, 'Since the father of this boy is wealthy, therefore let us name this boy 'Subhuti'.' Then, the boy Subhuti was raised and grew up, and due to the power and force of previous causes, he became prone to dejection, anger, and jealousy. Then, his parents released him from worldly protection, ordained him among the ascetics, and he also became absorbed in meditation there.

They dwell and reside in a certain forest. In that forest, there also lived a god named Truth-Seeing, who generated compassion for him, thinking, 'This son of good family is greatly inclined towards anger and jealousy, and will not attain distinction. I should bring him to see the Blessed One.' Then, that god praised the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha in front of Subhūti. Thereafter, Subhūti developed the desire to see the Blessed One, and through the power of that god's miraculous abilities, he was led to the presence of the Blessed One. Then, he saw the Buddha, the Blessed One, whose body was well adorned with the thirty-two marks of a great being, beautified by the eighty minor marks, adorned with a fathom of light, possessing light surpassing a thousand suns, and all-perfect like a moving mountain of jewels. As soon as he saw him, the mind of malice he had towards sentient beings disappeared. Then, he generated joy, prostrated at the feet of the Blessed One, and sat before the Blessed One in order to listen to the Dharma. Then, the Blessed One, understanding his thoughts, latent tendencies, inclinations, and nature, taught him the Dharma in such a way that he would realize the four noble truths. Having heard that, the son of good family, Subhūti, having shattered the twenty high peaks of the mountain of the view of the aggregates with the vajra of wisdom, directly realized the fruit of stream-entry. Having seen the truth, he went forth into the teachings of the Blessed One. Through diligence, practice, and effort, he tamed his mind by meditating on loving-kindness, recognizing that this wheel of samsara in the five degenerate ages is wavering and unstable, and thoroughly understanding that all conditioned phenomena are of the nature of decay, decline, dissolution, and destruction. Having abandoned all defilements, he directly realized the state of an Arhat. The Arhat, having become free from attachment to the three realms, regarding gold and ashes as equal, possessing a mind that is like the sky and the palm of the hand, having become cool like sandalwood steeped in water, having shattered the shell of ignorance with wisdom, having obtained intelligence, supernormal powers, and individual self-awareness, as well as the gains and attachments of existence.
