Having abandoned them, if I were to renounce, I would possess nothing. What use is there in sending these ornaments home now? It would be better to abandon these, and I would undoubtedly follow them into renunciation. Then, the barber Upali went to where the Blessed One was, and upon arriving, prostrated at the feet of the Blessed One, and said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, if even someone like me can renounce in the well-spoken Dharma-Vinaya, and be ordained and fully ordained, and be able to obtain the status of a Bhikshu, then I also wish to practice the Brahmacharya in the presence of the Blessed One." Then, the Blessed One said, "Come, Bhikshu," and thus he was ordained. Then, five hundred Shakyas, including Bhadraka, dressed as Bhikshus, prostrated to the Sangha of Bhikshus including the Buddha, but they recognized Upali's feet, and because he was of noble birth, handsome, and wealthy, they were unable to prostrate to Upali. Then, the Blessed One said to the venerable Bhadraka: "Bhadraka, in my teachings, one should not measure by lineage, appearance, youth, power, or the purity of the four castes. You should prostrate to him." Then, five hundred Shakyas, including Bhadraka, upheld the Dharma and prostrated at his feet as if cutting a tree from its roots. The moment they prostrated at his feet, the great earth shook in six ways. Then, there, the venerable Bhadraka, through diligence, practice, and effort, realized that this wheel of the five-eyed Samsara was moving and unstable, and determined that all conditioned phenomena are by nature decaying, falling, scattering, and destroying, and thus abandoned all defilements and directly realized the state of an Arhat. The Arhat, having become free from the desires of the three realms, became equal to gold and dung, possessed a mind like the sky and the palm of the hand, became as cool as if soaked in sandalwood, shattered the shell of ignorance with wisdom, obtained knowledge, supernormal powers, and analytical understanding, and no longer clung to the gains and losses of Samsara.

Disregarding status and respect, he was worshiped, remembered, and respectfully spoken of by the gods with power and relatives. He was a great being, with compassion for those who suffer and are poor. Later one day, he dressed in his lower garment and robes in the morning, took his bowl, and set out for a place where he could listen to the Dharma. After a while, he went to a low-caste home to beg for alms. At that time, King Prasenajit of Kosala, riding an elephant king named White Lotus Alone, with the charioteer Kuvira's son, set out to see the Blessed One. King Prasenajit of Kosala saw Bhadraka, whose senses were subdued, whose mind was peaceful, whose mind was extremely tamed and nearly pacified, wearing tattered clothes, carrying coarse food, and coming out of that low-caste home. Seeing him, he asked the charioteer Kuvira's son: Is this not the monk Bhadraka? The charioteer replied: As the god has said, it is he. Then, King Prasenajit of Kosala fainted and fell to the ground. After being sprinkled with water, he awoke and, agitated, was lifted up by the charioteer Kuvira's son. Then, King Prasenajit went to the Blessed One, prostrated at the Blessed One's feet, and said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, I have seen a wonderful thing. The Shakya king Bhadraka, wearing tattered clothes, carrying coarse food, begging for alms with extremely peaceful behavior that makes gods and humans believe, coming out of a low-caste home, I think this. The Blessed One's teachings are extremely subduing, and relying on them, one is happy like this, and those born of happiness in the middle also become tamed like this, it is truly amazing. The Blessed One said: Great King, there are other more amazing things about Bhadraka, listen. Great King, whether Bhadraka lives in a monastery, or under a tree, or in an empty house, he feels happy, happy! When I had not yet renounced, I lived in the royal palace, and the ministers

The people of the great cities and towns and villages guarded it very well. Although protected by walls, trenches, gates, and wild animals, their hearts were still suspicious and unhappy, and they were dissatisfied with everyone, even unable to sleep. Now I don't even care about my own body and life, and I can live happily anywhere. He said these joyful words three times. Then, the monks became doubtful and, in order to dispel all doubts, they asked the Buddha Shakyamuni: "Venerable Zangden, what deeds did he do and accumulate in his past lives that made him have a beautiful appearance, be pleasing to look at, be beautiful, be born into a wealthy royal family, and also be able to directly realize the state of Arhat after ordination?" The Blessed One said: "Monks, Zangden himself, in his past lives, possessed the accumulation of resources and the fulfillment of favorable conditions, appearing like a tiger, and did and accumulated those deeds that would not be devoured by demons. How could others experience the deeds done and accumulated by Zangden himself? Monks, the deeds done and accumulated will not mature in the external realm of earth, nor will they mature in the realms of water, fire, and wind. The virtuous and non-virtuous deeds done and accumulated will only mature in the aggregates, realms, and sources that are clung to. The deeds of sentient beings, Even in hundreds of kalpas will not be lost. When the conditions gather and the time arrives, They will surely mature into fruition. Monks, in the past, in the city of Varanasi, there lived a beggar who was hungry and oppressed by poverty. As he wandered around, he saw a woman carrying a child. Then, because the beggar wanted the child, he coaxed the woman, forcibly snatched the child, and fled in all directions. The woman also followed closely behind. Then, the beggar jumped into the Ganges River without hesitation. In times when Buddhas do not appear, Solitary Buddhas live with compassion for the poor, living in remote places. They are the sole objects of offering in the world."
