The Buddha, endowed with knowledge and conduct, the Sugata, the knower of the world, the tamer of beings, the unsurpassed, the teacher of gods and humans, named Buddha Bhagavan Light Protector, appeared in the world. He resided and dwelt in the Deer Park where the sages spoke in the city of Varanasi. At that time, a merchant lived there, and when his wife was giving birth, she was afflicted by the feeling of suffering, uttering helpless cries and weeping. When he heard that sound, he became extremely displeased. He entered a chamber of sorrow, covered his head with his hands, and was immersed in grief. Then, the thought arose in him: 'I should go forth into the teachings of the Bhagavan, and in no way should I ever experience dwelling in a womb again. I must make a prayer.' He became despondent, and he went forth into the teachings of the Bhagavan Light Protector. He made this prayer: 'By this root of virtue and generation of mind, may I be born miraculously in whatever rebirth I take, and may I never experience dwelling in a womb again.' The Bhagavan said: 'Monks, what do you think? The merchant who was there at that time is this miraculously born one. Because he made that prayer, he was born miraculously. Because he fully matured his faculties there, he has now realized the state of an Arhat.' Monks, therefore, those actions that are definitely black will definitely have a black result. Those actions that are definitely white will definitely have a white result. Those actions that are mixed will have a mixed result. Monks, therefore, abandon those actions that are definitely black and those that are mixed, and focus solely on those actions that are definitely white. Monks, you should train yourselves in this way.' After the Bhagavan had spoken, the monks rejoiced and praised what the Bhagavan had said. The one named Beautiful is the king to the Buddha Bhagavan.

etc., and the great ministers, the wealthy, the people around the palace, the merchants, the captains, the gods, the nagas, the yakshas, the asuras, the garudas, the kinnaras, and the mahoragas all paid homage, revered as teachers, painted images, and made offerings. The Buddha, blessed one, endowed with great merit, who is worshiped and known by gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas, having obtained robes, food, bedding, cushions, medicine, and medical supplies, was residing in the Nyagrodha grove in Serkyia. At that time, in Serkyia, there lived a Shakya man who was wealthy, possessed great riches and vast enjoyment, had extensive holdings, possessed the wealth of Vaishravana, and rivaled the wealth of Vaishravana. He took a wife from his own clan, and together they played and rejoiced. As he played and rejoiced, his wife became pregnant, and after eight or nine months, she gave birth to a son. The boy was handsome, pleasing to the eye, and beautiful, surpassing the color of humans, but not yet attaining the color of the gods. When he was born, many very wondrous things occurred, which beautified the city of Serkyia. Then, a birth celebration was held for him, and they discussed what name to give the boy. The relatives said, "Because he beautified the city of Serkyia when he was born, therefore, the boy should be named 'Beautiful.'" Then, the beautiful boy was entrusted to eight nurses: two nurses who fed him on their laps, two nurses who nursed him, two nurses who cleaned his dirt, and two nurses who played with him. These eight nurses raised him with milk, yogurt, butter, ghee, cream essence, and all sorts of other excellent provisions, and he grew rapidly like a lotus in a lake. After that, when he grew up, he wanted to see the Blessed One.

Therefore, he went to the Nyagrodha tree's monastery. Then, he saw the Blessed One Buddha, whose body was well adorned with the thirty-two marks of a great man, beautified by the eighty minor marks, adorned with a fathom of light, possessing light surpassing a thousand suns, and was all-around excellent like a mountain of jewels. As soon as he saw him, he generated joy in the Blessed One. Having generated joy, he prostrated at the feet of the Blessed One and sat before the Blessed One in order to listen to the Dharma. Then, the Blessed One, understanding his thoughts, predispositions, inclinations, and nature, taught him the Dharma in such a way that he would realize the four noble truths. Having heard it, the handsome youth, having shattered the twenty high peaks of the mountain of the view of the aggregates with the vajra of wisdom, directly realized the fruit of stream-entry. Having seen the truth, he asked his parents and went forth into the teachings of the Blessed One. Through diligence, practice, and effort, he realized that this wheel of samsara with its five eyes is wavering and unstable, and he determined that all conditioned phenomena are of the nature of decay, decline, dissipation, and destruction. Having abandoned all defilements, he directly realized the state of an Arhat. The Arhat, having become free from desire for the three realms, possessed a mind that was equal to gold and gravel, like the sky and the palm of the hand, and had become as cool as if soaked in sandalwood. He shattered the shell of ignorance with wisdom, and obtained wisdom, supernormal powers, and individual perfect knowledge. He did not look to the gains, attachments, and honors of existence. The gods, including the powerful ones and their attendants, worshipped, remembered, and respectfully praised him. Then, the monks had doubts and asked the Blessed One Buddha, who cuts off all doubts: 'Venerable One, what deeds did the handsome one do that he is so beautiful in form, pleasing to look at, and handsome, surpassing the color of humans, but has not obtained the color of the gods? Also, when he was born, many extremely marvelous things occurred, and those things beautified all the places in the city of Kapilavastu.'
