Even if I do little, may I give alms and accumulate merit, and with these two, wherever I am born and go, may this virtue follow me. With this dedication, joyful words are spoken. Then, knowing that she was pregnant, she was placed on top of a high mansion for the sake of caring for the child. In cold weather, she was given warming things, and in hot weather, cooling things, as well as the food recommended by the doctor. She was not given anything too sour, too salty, too sweet, too spicy, or too astringent, but was nourished with food that was without sourness, saltiness, sweetness, spiciness, or astringency. Her body was adorned with necklaces and silk. Like a celestial maiden wandering in a joyful garden, she moved from couch to couch, and from small couch to small couch, never touching the ground. She also did not hear any unpleasant sounds. Then, after eight or nine months, she gave birth to a son, a boy who was handsome, pleasing to look at, very beautiful, and complete with all limbs. On his two hands, there appeared two gold coins with markings, born from the maturation of karma. Whenever he was born, other coins would also appear. Then, they held a birth celebration for him and discussed what name to give the child. The relatives said, "As soon as this child was born, two gold coins appeared on his hands, born from the maturation of karma. Therefore, let this child be named 'Holding Gold'." Then, the boy named 'Holding Gold' was entrusted to eight nurses: two to hold him, two to nurse him, two to clean him, and two to play with him. These eight nurses nurtured him with milk, yogurt, butter, ghee, cream essence, and all other kinds of excellent things, causing him to grow rapidly like a lotus in a lake. He was faithful, virtuous, had good thoughts, and was engaged in benefiting himself and others.

He was a blessed person. When he walked on the street, if he saw ascetics, Brahmins, the poor, the miserable, and the destitute, he would extend his hands and give them piles of gold and silver coins, fulfilling their needs. Then, his fame spread throughout all the places that could hear. Later, one day, this boy with gold in his hand went to King Victory's garden. He saw the Blessed One Buddha, whose body was adorned with the thirty-two marks of a great man, beautified by the eighty minor marks, surrounded by a fathom of light, possessing light surpassing a thousand suns, perfect like a walking mountain of jewels. As soon as he saw him, he immediately generated joy in the Blessed One. Having generated joy, he bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One and sat before the Blessed One in order to listen to the Dharma. Then, the Blessed One taught him the Dharma, and he said to the venerable Ananda, "Venerable, I wish to offer a meal to the Blessed One and the Sangha of hearers." The venerable Ananda said, "Child, Kārṣāpaṇa is needed." Then, the boy with gold in his hand stood before the Sangha of monks including the Buddha, extended his hands, and piled up a large amount of gold and silver treasures. Then, the elders of the Sangha, other monks, and the venerable Ananda, seeing this, were greatly amazed. Then, the boy with gold in his hand offered a meal to the Sangha of monks including the Buddha, and sat before the Blessed One in order to listen to the Dharma. Then, the Blessed One, understanding his thoughts, habits, faculties, and nature, taught him the Dharma in such a way that he would realize the four noble truths. Having heard it, the boy with gold in his hand destroyed the twenty high peaks of the mountain of the view of the aggregates with the vajra of wisdom, and directly realized the fruit of stream-entry. Having seen the truth, he distributed his wealth to his relatives and offered it to ascetics, Brahmins, the poor, the miserable, and the destitute.

Then, having requested his parents, he renounced the world in the Buddha's teachings, and through diligence, practice, and effort, he realized that this wheel of five-eyed samsara is wavering and unstable. He determined that all conditioned phenomena are of the nature of decay, decline, dissolution, and destruction. Having abandoned all defilements, he directly realized the state of an Arhat. The Arhat, having become free from desire for the three realms, became equal to gold and ashes, possessed a mind like the sky and the palm of his hand, cool like sandalwood soaked in water, and shattered the shell of ignorance with wisdom. He obtained wisdom, clairvoyance, and discriminating awareness. He did not look to worldly gain, attachment, or respect. He was worshiped by the gods, including the powerful ones and their retinues, and became a place to be remembered and revered. Then the monks became doubtful and asked the Buddha, the Blessed One, who cuts off all doubts: "Venerable one, what deeds did the one holding gold in his hand do, that two marks of golden coins appeared on his two feet, and that he realized Arhatship after renouncing the world?" The Blessed One said: "Monks, the one holding gold in his hand accumulated merit and possessed the conditions for accomplishment in other past lives, coming like a flood, not in vain. Because he did and accumulated those deeds that will not be in vain, how could the deeds done and accumulated by the one holding gold in his hand be experienced by someone else? Monks, the deeds done and accumulated do not ripen in the external earth element, nor do they ripen in the water, fire, or wind elements. Good and bad deeds, having been done and accumulated, will only ripen completely in the aggregates, elements, and sense bases that have been grasped." The deeds of embodied beings will not be lost even in hundreds of eons. When the conditions gather and the time arrives, they will ripen into their own fruit. Monks, in the past, in this very fortunate eon, when the life span of beings was twenty thousand years, the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Enlightened Buddha...
