Seeing this, they were amazed and thought, "What a pity that Ganga didn't tell us about this." Then they returned and woke Ganga, who was asleep from drinking, and said, "Ganga, your wife is so ugly, you have found a good thing." Then Ganga became even more unhappy and thought, "Punishment has fallen on me, and bad words have fallen on me." Then, unhappy, he came to his house, opened the door, and looked at his wife. She was as beautiful as a forest goddess sitting in a forest full of flowers. He asked, "Good woman, what is this? What did you do to become so special?" Then she told her husband everything that had happened. After hearing this, he also gained faith in the Blessed One. After a while, the girl finally asked her husband and went forth into the teachings of the Blessed One. Through diligence, practice, and effort, she realized that this wheel of the five aggregates of samsara is moving and unstable. She thoroughly understood that all conditioned phenomena are of the nature of decay, fall, dissipation, and destruction. Having abandoned all defilements, she directly realized the state of an Arhat. The Arhat, having become detached from the desires of the three realms, equated gold and ashes, possessed a mind like the sky and the palm of the hand, became cool like sandalwood soaked in water, destroyed the shell of ignorance with wisdom, obtained wisdom, supernormal powers, and individual self-realization, did not look to worldly gain, attachment, and respect, and became an object of worship, reverence, and respect by the gods with power and retinue. Then the monks arose with doubts, and in order to cut off all doubts, they asked the Buddha, the Blessed One: "Venerable, what actions did Rashtra do to be born into a wealthy family? What actions did he do to become ugly? And how did he directly realize the state of an Arhat after going forth?" The Blessed One said: "Monks, Rashtra himself, in other past lives, accumulated merit and possessed the complete conditions.

It will still arise. If one does and accumulates those deeds that are not devoured by demons, then who else will experience those deeds done and accumulated by Rāhula himself? Monks, the deeds done and accumulated will not ripen in the external realm of earth, nor will they ripen in the realm of water, fire, or wind. The virtuous and non-virtuous deeds done and accumulated will ripen only in the aggregates, realms, and sources that are grasped. The deeds of sentient beings will not be exhausted even in hundreds of kalpas. When they are accumulated and the time has come, they will naturally ripen into fruition. Monks, in the past, in the city of Varanasi, there was a merchant's wife who was fierce, rude, and miserly. When the Buddhas do not appear in the world, those solitary Buddhas who have compassion for the poor and destitute, who live in remote dwellings, and who are the sole objects of offerings in the world, appear in the world. Then, after some time, an ugly solitary Buddha went to her house, and she scolded him a lot, saying, 'What does this ugly person want in my house?' and then drove him out of the house. Then, in order to benefit him, that solitary Buddha rose into the sky like a swan king spreading its wings, and displayed various kinds of miracles. Then, the merchant's wife felt remorse, apologized to him, offered him food, and made the aspiration: 'May I not experience the ripening of the karma of insulting the solitary Buddha. May I also attain such Dharma, and may I please a teacher who is even more excellent than this, and may I not displease him.' Monks, what do you think? The merchant's wife at that time was this Rāhula. The ripening of the karma of offering food to the solitary Buddha caused him to be born into a wealthy royal family. Speaking unpleasant words and driving him out of the house made him ugly. Furthermore, he became ordained during the time of the Blessed One Kāśyapa, and he studied and recited there.

Monks, thus, those that are definitely black deeds will definitely have black ripening. Those that are definitely white deeds will definitely have white ripening. Mixed deeds will also have mixed ripening. Monks, therefore, abandon those that are definitely black deeds and mixed deeds, and devote yourselves solely to those that are definitely white deeds. Monks, you should train yourselves in this way. The Blessed One having spoken thus, the monks rejoiced and greatly praised what the Blessed One had said. The eighth chapter of the "Hundred Parables" such as the Wise and Foolish Sutra is completed. Ninth chapter of the Summary Verses. The summary is: Ocean and Nama, Holding Gold in Hand, the Three Baskets. Famous Friend, Illusion-born, Beautiful and Kapina. Good Protector and Dhritarashtra, are taught in the divisions. The so-called "Ocean" is that the kings, great ministers, wealthy people, palace attendants, merchants, captains, gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and great belly-walkers all revered, respected, honored, and made offerings to the Buddha, the Blessed One. The Buddha, the Blessed One, who is worshiped and known by gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and great belly-walkers, possessed of great merit, having obtained robes, food, bedding, cushions, medicine, and other necessities, together with the monastic community of hearers, was dwelling in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove of Prince Jeta, in the Garden of Anathapindika. At that time, in Shravasti
