The Bhagavan, endowed with all perfections, was revered by kings and great ministers, as well as wealthy people and palace attendants, merchants, captains, gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas. He was honored as a guru, depicted in paintings, and offered sacrifices. The Buddha, the Bhagavan, who was worshiped and known by gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas, possessed great merit and had obtained robes, food, bedding, cushions, medicine, and medical supplies. Accompanied by a community of shravakas, he resided in the Nyagrodha Grove in Kapilavastu. At that time, in Kapilavastu, there lived a wealthy Shakya man, rich in possessions and enjoying great prosperity, possessing vast holdings, endowed with the wealth of Vaishravana, and rivaling the wealth of Vaishravana. He took a wife from his own clan, and together they played and rejoiced, indulging in pleasure. As he played and rejoiced, indulging in pleasure, his wife became pregnant. After eight or nine months, she gave birth to a boy who was handsome, beautiful, and pleasing to behold, adorned with a precious jewel on his head. From him, rays of light emanated in all directions, like the rays of the sun, illuminating the entire city of Kapilavastu at night, making it appear as bright as day. Then, his parents, the servants living in that house, relatives, and the Shakyas residing in Kapilavastu saw this, were amazed, and filled with joy. Then, they held a birth celebration for him and discussed what name to give the boy. The relatives said, "Since this boy, as soon as he was born, made the entire city of Kapilavastu as bright as the sun, therefore, let us name this boy 'Sun.'" Then, the boy named Sun was entrusted to eight nurses, including two nurses who nursed him in their laps, two nurses who gave him milk, two nurses who washed away dirt, and two nurses who played with him.

And he was nourished and grew vigorously like a lotus in the sea by milk, cheese, butter, clarified butter, essence of butter, and all other excellent provisions. He was faithful, virtuous, and of good intention, engaged in benefiting himself and others, compassionate, of great character, desiring the Dharma, loving beings, craving to give, delighting in generosity, especially delighting in abundant generosity, abiding in great generosity. Then, after some time, the boy Nyima (Sun) went to the Nyagrodha tree garden. There he saw the Blessed One Buddha, whose body was well adorned with the thirty-two marks of a great being, beautified with the eighty minor marks, adorned with a fathom of light, possessing light surpassing a thousand suns, like a moving mountain of jewels, perfect in every way. As soon as he saw him, he developed joy in the Blessed One. Having developed joy, he prostrated at the feet of the Blessed One and sat before the Blessed One in order to listen to the Dharma. Then, the Blessed One, understanding his thoughts, predispositions, faculties, and nature, taught him the Dharma in such a way that he would realize the four noble truths. Having heard that, the boy Nyima, having shattered the twenty high peaks of the mountain of the view of the aggregates with the vajra of wisdom, directly realized the fruit of stream-entry. Having seen the truth, he gave gifts and abundant gifts, satisfying mendicants, Brahmins, the poor, and the afflicted, and served his parents, and went forth into the teachings of the Blessed One. Through diligence, practice, and effort, he realized that this wheel of the five aggregates of cyclic existence is wavering and unstable. He thoroughly understood that all conditioned phenomena are of the nature of decay, decline, dissolution, and destruction. Having abandoned all defilements, he directly realized the state of an Arhat. The Arhat, having become free from desire for the three realms, having a mind equal to gold and dung, having a mind like the sky and the palm of the hand, having become cool like one immersed in sandalwood water, having shattered the shell of ignorance with wisdom, wisdom

and attained supernormal knowledge and individual perfect wisdom. He did not look to the gains, attachments, and honors of existence. He became a place where the gods, including those with power and attendants, worshiped, revered, and spoke with respect. Then, when the venerable Nyima went for alms, the Brahmins and householders who lacked faith ridiculed, reviled, and secretly mocked him, saying, 'This person is like one who carries a precious jewel on his head and wanders on the main roads, streets, crossroads, and three-way intersections. The practice of the Shakyaputra monks is false, and the practice of the Brahmins is also false.' They grumbled in this way. Then, he became very ashamed and went to where the Blessed One was. Having arrived, he prostrated at the feet of the Blessed One and said to the Blessed One, 'Blessed One, please make my precious jewel disappear.' The Blessed One replied, 'Son, this is born from karma, so it is impossible to make it disappear. However, let it be that those with faith see it, but those without faith do not see it.' Then, the Blessed One did just that. Then, the monks became doubtful and asked the Buddha, the Blessed One, who cuts off all doubts, 'Venerable, what deeds did Nyima do that he attained such great fame and the state of an Arhat?' The Blessed One replied, 'Nyima himself, in other past lives, accumulated merit and possessed complete conditions. Like a raging flood, he appeared and performed and accumulated those deeds that would not come to naught. Who else would experience the deeds that Nyima himself did and accumulated? Monks, the deeds done and accumulated do not ripen in the external earth element, nor do they ripen in the water element, fire element, or wind element. The virtuous and non-virtuous deeds done and accumulated will only ripen in the aggregates, elements, and sense bases that are grasped.' The deeds of sentient beings will not be lost even for hundreds of eons. When they are accumulated and the time arrives, they will ripen into their fruit. Monks, in the past
