And the kinnaras, and the garudas, and the kimnaras, and the mahoragas paid homage, respected, made images, and made offerings. The gods, and the nagas, and the yakshas, and the asuras, and the garudas, and the kimnaras, and the mahoragas, knowing and making offerings to the Blessed One, endowed with great merit, obtained robes, and food, and bedding, and cushions, and medicine, and medicinal supplies. Together with the assembly of shravakas, he resided in the Nyagrodha Grove in Kapilavastu. At that time, in Kapilavastu, a Shakya man, rich and with much wealth and great enjoyment, possessing vast and extensive holdings, endowed with the wealth of Vaishravana, one who rivaled the wealth of Vaishravana, lived there. He took a wife from his own clan, and together with her, he played and rejoiced. As he played and rejoiced, his wife became pregnant, and after eight or nine months, she gave birth to a son, a boy handsome in form, pleasing to behold, and beautiful, surpassing the color of humans, but not yet having attained the color of the gods, one born like the color of gold from the Jambu River. The golden light of that child illuminated the entire city of Kapilavastu. Then, the parents and other beings saw him, came to watch, and thought, "From where has such a special being come?" They were greatly amazed and took it to heart. Then, they held a birth celebration for him and began to name the boy, and the relatives said, "When this child was born, the entire city of Kapilavastu was illuminated by golden light, therefore, this child should be named Golden Light." After that, the boy Golden Light was entrusted to eight nurses, namely, two nurses who nurtured him in their laps, two nurses who nursed him, two nurses who washed away impurities, and two nurses who played with him. Those eight nurses raised him with milk, yogurt, butter, ghee, essence of ghee, and other various excellent provisions, and he grew rapidly like a lotus in a lake.

Being kind and having good intentions, engaging in benefiting oneself and others. A great being with compassion, desiring the Dharma. Later, because he was intoxicated with pride in his appearance, he was playing outside the city. Many Shakyas also went to the Nyagrodha tree monastery. Then, the golden light boy saw them and asked, "Where are you going?" They said, "To see the Blessed One Buddha, we are going to the Nyagrodha tree monastery." Then, the golden light boy heard the name "Buddha." Having heard a name he had never heard before, all his hairs stood on end. He was greatly amazed and thought to himself, "I must also go to see the Blessed One Buddha." So he also went to the Nyagrodha tree monastery. The golden light boy saw the body of the Blessed One Buddha, well adorned with the thirty-two major marks of a great being, beautified with the eighty minor marks, adorned with a fathom of light, possessing light surpassing a thousand suns, like a moving mountain of jewels, beautiful in every way. As soon as he saw him, his pride in his appearance disappeared. He prostrated at the feet of the Blessed One and sat before the Blessed One to listen to the Dharma. Then, the Blessed One taught him the Dharma, and upon hearing the Dharma, he desired to renounce. After a while, he asked his parents and went to the Blessed One. Having arrived, he bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One. In the place where the Blessed One was, he folded his palms together respectfully and said to the Blessed One, "Venerable One, if I can renounce and receive full ordination in the well-spoken Dharma and Vinaya, and obtain the status of a Bhikshu, then I also wish to practice the pure conduct in the presence of the Blessed One." Then, the Blessed One extended his golden hand, which was like an elephant's trunk, and said to the golden light boy, "Young man, come, practice the pure conduct!" At the moment the Blessed One said this, his hair and beard were shaved off, as if seven days had passed. His conduct was like that of someone who had been fully ordained for a hundred years.
