At that time, when he was in Shravasti, King Prasenajit of Kosala was ruling. During his reign, there was wealth, prosperity, happiness, good harvests, and it was filled with people and many people. Disputes and battles were pacified, and there were no disturbances, internal strife, theft, famine, and diseases. It was abundant with rice, sugar cane, cattle, and buffalo. He ruled the kingdom without harm, like tending to a single son while avoiding stirring up thorns. Later, after some time, King Prasenajit of Kosala went to Jetavana Grove to see and attend to the Blessed One. The king of Panchala sent five hundred geese as a gift to King Prasenajit of Kosala. When the king went to Jetavana Grove, those five hundred geese were offered. Then, King Prasenajit gave those geese fearlessness and released them in Jetavana Grove itself. When the Blessed One was eating and dwelling with a great monastic community, those geese went to the Blessed One. The Blessed One and the great monastic community did not chase them away. They ate, were satisfied, content, their senses were nourished, and they settled down. When the Blessed One arose from meditative absorption and taught the Dharma to those four assemblies, those geese went to the Blessed One and listened to the Dharma. Then, they had short lives and, after dying, were reborn in the good heaven of the Thirty-Three (Trayastrimsha). When a son or daughter of the gods is born, before long, by nature, three thoughts arise: "From where did I die? Where was I born? By what karma was I born?" Then, those who had died from being geese, were born in the good heaven of the Thirty-Three, and whose minds were delighted with the Blessed One, saw this. Then, those sons of the gods who had previously been geese thought, "It is not our place to go to see the Blessed One after a long time. We should go to see the Blessed One without delay." Then, those who had previously been geese

Those sons of gods wearing swaying hoop earrings, adorned with necklaces and belts, with crowns adorned with various jewels, their bodies smeared with saffron, tamala leaves, and kala and other spices, on that night, they filled the containers with celestial flowers of utpala, lotus, kumuda, white lotus, and mandara, illuminating all the gardens of the victorious prince with great light, scattering flowers to the Bhagavan, and sat before the Bhagavan to listen to the Dharma. Then, the Bhagavan understood the thoughts, habits, dispositions, and nature of the sons of gods who had previously become swans, and taught the Dharma in such a way that they would realize the Four Noble Truths. Having heard this, the sons of gods who had previously become swans, having destroyed the twenty high peaks of the mountain of the view of the aggregates with the vajra of wisdom, attained the fruit of stream-entry. Having seen the truth, they spoke three times with joyful words: Venerable Bhagavan, you have dried up our ocean of blood and tears, crossed the mountain of bones, closed the doors of the lower realms, opened the doors of heaven and liberation, and like this, you have placed us among gods and humans, this was not done by the father, nor by the mother, nor by the king, nor by the gods, nor by the assembly of family and relatives, nor by the previous teachers, nor by the ascetics and brahmins. Again they said: The path of the lower realms, full of many faults, extremely unbearable, is cut off by your power; possessing great merit, you have opened the path to heaven; we have obtained the path to nirvana. Today we have obtained the eye that abandons faults, having relied on you, it is extremely pure. We have crossed the ocean of suffering, and obtained the peaceful state that pleases the noble ones. Supreme among humans, powerful one, worshipped by gods and humans, having abandoned the disease of birth, old age, and death, rejoicing in seeing the emptiness of existence, the Thuba (Sage), seeing you today is fruitful. Then, those swaying necklaces became joyful, prostrated and paid homage to the two feet of the Buddha, and circumambulated the Victorious One.
