We are thirsty to see the Blessed One. We are thirsty to see the Blessed One. For the sake of compassion, please go to Śrāvastī. The Blessed One said, 'If King Rūpakāya allows me to go, I will go.' Then, that messenger reported to King Rūpakāya and said to the Blessed One, 'King Rūpakāya has granted permission for the Blessed One to go. Please consider that now is the time to go.' Then, the Blessed One did not say anything to that person and granted permission. Then, after three months of summer had passed, the Blessed One made robes, and after the robes were finished, he put on the robes, took the alms bowl, and departed alone to Śrāvastī with many attendants. The messenger also set off on a chariot. Then, when he saw the Buddha, the Blessed One, walking, he got off the chariot, bowed with his palms joined together in the direction of the Blessed One, and said to the Blessed One, 'For the sake of compassion, please accept my chariot.' The Blessed One said, 'With the chariot of miraculous feet, I go from the place of truth, unharmed by the thorns of affliction, wandering everywhere on the earth.' The messenger reported, 'Although the Blessed One goes by miraculous feet, please ride for the sake of benefiting me and for compassion.' Then, the Blessed One, for the sake of benefiting the messenger, miraculously sat on the chariot. Then, the Blessed One, riding in the chariot, went to Śrāvastī, and the messenger also reported to the king. Then, the king, ministers, palace attendants, and villagers welcomed the Blessed One, and that night they gathered in the garden of Prince Jetavana to listen to the Dharma. That messenger had a short life, and after hearing the Dharma, he died that very night. After he died, he was reborn in the beautiful heaven of the Thirty-three (Trāyastriṃśa). Not long after the son of the gods or the daughter of the gods was born, according to the law, three kinds of minds arose.

will be born, thinking, 'From where did I die? Where was I born? By what karma was I born?' Then, having died from the human realm, he was born in the beautiful heaven of the Thirty-three (त्रयस्त्रिंश, trayas-triṃśa, Thirty-three), and saw the one who had become delighted with the Blessed One. Then, the son of the gods who had previously been a messenger thought to himself, 'It is not my place to go to see the Blessed One only when the time is ripe for me. I will go to see the Blessed One before the time is ripe.' Then, the son of the gods who had previously been a messenger, wearing earrings and armlets that jingled and swayed, his body adorned with necklaces and garlands, wearing a crown adorned with various precious jewels, his body anointed with saffron, tamala leaves, and kala and other fragrances, that very night filled a basket with heavenly flowers of lotus, water lily, lotus, white lotus, and mandara, illuminated the entire garden of Prince Victory with great light, scattered flowers upon the Blessed One, and sat before the Blessed One in order to listen to the Dharma. Then, the Blessed One, having understood the thoughts, habits, dispositions, and nature of the son of the gods who had previously been a messenger, taught him the Dharma in such a way that he would realize the Four Noble Truths. Having heard this, the son of the gods who had previously been a messenger, having shattered the twenty high peaks of the mountain of the view of the aggregates with the vajra of wisdom, attained the fruit of stream-entry. Having seen the truth, he spoke three times in joyful words: 'Venerable Blessed One, you have dried up my ocean of blood and tears, crossed the mountain of bones, cut off the gates of the lower realms, opened the gates of higher realms and liberation, and placed me among gods and humans. Such great kindness was not done for me by my father, nor by my mother, nor by the king, nor by the gods, nor by my family and relatives, nor by my former teachers, nor by the ascetics and brahmins!' He also said: 'The path of the lower realms, full of many faults, extremely unbearable, you have cut off by your power. You have opened the path to higher realms, full of merit, and I have also attained the path of nirvana.'
