Beneath the surface, I saw a dragon residing in an immeasurable palace made of seven precious jewels. The dragon king, upon seeing the Bodhisattva, was startled and thought to himself: 'My abode is surrounded by seven layers of abysses, filled with venomous snakes. No one other than dragons and yakshas can possibly come here. Who could this be?' So he rose from his seat to greet the Bodhisattva, prostrated with reverence, and placed him on a jeweled throne, offering him various kinds of food. After the Bodhisattva had eaten, he asked: 'Why have you come here? And how did you arrive?' The Bodhisattva replied: 'The people of Jambudvipa, being impoverished, harm and injure each other in various ways for the sake of wealth, food, and clothing, and immediately after death, they fall into the three lower realms. I feel deep compassion for them, and in order to become their protector, I have come from afar, overcoming many difficulties, to request the wish-fulfilling jewel from you, the great king. May the wish-fulfilling jewel, through the merit of benefiting all sentient beings, enable me to perfectly attain enlightenment. Please grant me the jewel without opposing my wish.' The dragon king said: 'The wish-fulfilling jewel is extremely rare. If you have come for this purpose, then please stay here for a month, accept my offerings, and teach me the Dharma, and I will also give you the wish-fulfilling jewel.' The Bodhisattva agreed. Thereafter, the dragon king prepared food with a hundred flavors every day, offering it to the Bodhisattva in various ways, and worshiped the Bodhisattva with music. When asked what power this precious jewel had, the king replied, "This jewel can shower down all necessities like rain within a radius of two thousand yojanas." The Bodhisattva thought, "Although this precious jewel has great power, it cannot accomplish the great matter I have in mind." Thinking this, he left with the dragon king and his retinue escorting him. Then, as he went on, he saw a blue castle in the distance. When he arrived at the castle, he found that it was surrounded by seven moats, and the moats were filled with venomous snakes. The Bodhisattva generated a heart of love and compassion for those venomous snakes, and the venomous snakes calmed down, and the Bodhisattva stepped on those snakes and went on. When he arrived at the castle gate, there were two dragons lying at the castle gate, and the Bodhisattva calmed the venom of the dragons with a heart of love and compassion, stepped on their heads, and entered the castle. At that time, there was a dragon king in the castle dwelling in a palace made of seven kinds of jewels. Seeing the Bodhisattva from afar, he thought, "My abode is surrounded by seven moats, and the moats are filled with venomous snakes. If it is not a dragon or a yaksha, others cannot pass through. Then he prepared various foods with a hundred flavors and offered them. After the Bodhisattva had eaten the food, the dragon king asked, "Why have you come here? What is your purpose?" The Bodhisattva said, "I have come to beg the wish-fulfilling precious jewel from you, the dragon king." The dragon king said, "The precious jewel is very difficult to obtain. If you truly desire it, please stay for two months as I request, teach us the conduct of a Bodhisattva, and accept our offerings, and I will give you the precious jewel." The great benefactor agreed, saying, "So be it." Then, for two months, the dragon king prepared various foods with a hundred flavors, offered them, and played various musical instruments.
