He thought to himself: 'These sentient beings, because of poverty, engage in such unwholesome deeds as killing for food and clothing. These beings, immediately after death, will fall into the three lower realms, going from darkness to darkness, with no time for liberation.' Thinking this, he returned home, contemplating day and night, feeling unhappy. Then he went to his father and said, 'Father, I have a request to make of you, please grant it.' The father said, 'My son, whatever you say, I will do as you say.' 'Father, previously, when I went out for a walk, I saw many people troubled for food and clothing, killing each other, lying, seizing power, and doing various unwholesome deeds. I thought to give them charity, please, father, take wealth from the great treasury and let them use it as they wish.' The father said, 'All the many jewels and treasures I have accumulated are for you, why wouldn't I listen to you?' Then, Gedun (Virtuous Purpose) received permission from his father and said to all the people in the country, 'Gedun is going to give a great alms, everyone gather and come!' At that time, ascetics, Brahmins, the poor, the helpless, the sick, and so on, gathered on the road outside the city. They came from distances of one hundred, two hundred, three hundred, four hundred, five hundred, and even a thousand yojanas. Some came from distances of two thousand, three thousand, four thousand, five thousand, and even ten thousand yojanas, gathering like clouds. He gave to everyone as they wished, clothes to those who wanted clothes, food to those who wanted food, jewels, gold, silver, ་རྱ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal meaning in Chinese), Musaragala (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal meaning in Chinese), mounts, vehicles, palanquins, gardens, fields, walking, and so on, all were given as they wished. Having engaged in charity in this way, after a long time, one-third of the treasury was exhausted. Then, the treasury guard said to the king, 'The prince has been giving charity from the treasury, and one-third has been used up, leaving only two-thirds, gifts of mutual contention.'

I said, "What kind of business should we do?" Because I loved this son, I couldn't bear to refuse, so I ordered, "Even if the treasury is empty, it doesn't matter." After some time, two-thirds of the treasury was used up, and only about one-third remained. The storekeeper again said to the king, "Now about two-thirds of the treasury has been used up, and only one-third remains. If this continues, how can we exchange gifts and do business?" The king instructed him, "Because I love this son very much, I can't bear to refuse, so I can't say anything. You should think of a good way to find an excuse to prevaricate as if you are very busy." After the storekeeper received the order from the king, he closed the door of the treasury and went to find a solution. After that, the beggars went to seek good deeds, but sometimes they couldn't find the storekeeper, and the door of the treasury was not opened. Even if the storekeeper came, he would not give as they wished, so the virtuous one thought: If this continues, the storekeeper will not be able to bear it. Even if there is the father's instruction, the son will empty the father's treasury. What should I do now to get the treasures as I wish, so as to benefit many people? Thinking like this, he asked people, "What kind of work in the world can bring a lot of wealth and never be exhausted?" Some people said, "Diligent farming can bring a lot of wealth." Some people said, "Developing animal husbandry and doing business can bring a lot of wealth." Some people said, "Traveling long distances to do business can bring a lot of wealth." Some people said, "Entering the sea and obtaining treasures can bring a lot of treasures." After the virtuous one heard what they said, he thought, "Farming, developing animal husbandry, and traveling long distances to do business are not what I should do. Only entering the sea is what I should do." Thinking like this, he wanted to enter the sea and said to his parents, "I will obtain many treasures from the sea and give them to the poor as I wish. Please allow me to go to the sea to collect treasures." His parents, hearing what he said, fainted and said to their son:
