给他的脚作了礼拜之后，把他领进宫殿里，放在铺设好的垫子上。王子合掌说道：伟大的导师，为了您的慈悲，请您开示神圣的佛法。说完，婆罗门说道：学习和练习都非常困难，寻找老师并了解也会不容易，仅凭这些是不够的，想听闻佛法是不合道理的。王子说道：伟大的导师，您想要什么就说吧，我即使是身体、妻子和儿子，如果您需要，我也不会吝惜，会按照您的吩咐去做。婆罗门说道：如果挖一个深十肘的火坑，里面装满燃烧的火焰，跳进去做供养，我就开示神圣的佛法。当时，那位王子按照老师的指示挖了一个大火坑。之后，国王、王后、大臣和宫殿的侍从们听到发生了这样的事，身心都不安宁，都来到王子的宫殿，向王子祈求，也恳求婆罗门，大家都恳切地劝说：尊者请您慈悲，为了我们，请不要让这位王子跳进火坑。侍从、妻子、女儿，或者我的身体，如果您需要，都可以献给您。婆罗门说道：我没有什么不能强迫的，一切都取决于王子所做的决定。如果他能做到那样，我就开示佛法，如果他做不到，我就不开示佛法。侍从们也知道并理解了他的誓言是坚定的，所以什么也没说。当时，国王派了一个信使，骑着一头能日行百千由旬的大象，派往整个赡部洲，宣告说：各位国王和王子们，七天后，他（王子）为了求法将跳入火坑，如果你们想见他，就赶快来吧。当时，小国王和许多百姓，哭泣着，虚弱地互相搀扶着，来到王子面前，右膝着地，合掌，所有人异口同声地说：我们是国王的……

Having said this, the Brahmin said: Learning and practicing are both very difficult, and seeking a teacher and understanding will also not be easy, so this alone will not be enough; wanting to hear the Dharma is not reasonable. The prince said: Great teacher, please say whatever you desire, and even if you want my body, wife, and son, I will not be stingy with anything, and I will do as you command. The Brahmin said: If you dig a fire pit ten cubits deep, fill it with burning flames, and jump into it to make an offering, then I will teach the sacred Dharma. At that time, that prince made a great fire pit according to the teacher's instructions. After that, the king, queen, ministers, and palace attendants, having heard that such a thing had happened, became uneasy in body and mind, and all came to the prince's palace, and pleaded with the prince, and also earnestly surrounded the Brahmin, and everyone earnestly pleaded: Venerable one, please have compassion, and for our sake, please do not let this prince jump into the fire pit. Servants, wife, daughter, or my body, if you need them, I will offer them to you. The Brahmin said: There is nothing that I cannot force, everything depends on what the prince decides to do. If he can do that, then I will also teach the Dharma, and if he cannot, then I will not teach the Dharma. The attendants also knew and understood that his vow was firm, so they said nothing. At that time, the king also sent a messenger, riding an elephant that could travel a hundred thousand yojanas in a day, and sent him to the entire Jambudvipa, proclaiming: Kings and princes, in seven days, he (the prince) will jump into the fire pit for the sake of seeking the Dharma, if you want to see him, come quickly. At that time, the small kings and many people, crying and weakly supporting each other, came to the prince, knelt on their right knees, joined their palms, and all spoke in unison, saying: We are the king's...

孩子，依靠你啊！像我们的父母一样，你如果跳入火坑，这些臣民全部都会失去庇护和居所，不要为了少数人，而使所有臣民失去依靠啊！这样祈请之后，王子对很多人这样宣告说：我从很久以前就在轮回中流转，已经转移了无数的身体。出生在人类之中时，因为欲望而不知满足，互相残害损害。即使出生在天界的神，当天的寿命耗尽时，也会感受远离欲望的痛苦。如果出生在有情地狱，也会经历被火烧，在铜锅中煮，被刀剑武器砍杀，沉入恶臭的液体中，攀登刀剑之刃，一天之中也会经历无数次的死亡，感受着深入骨髓的疾病和死亡的痛苦，那是无法言说的。如果出生为饿鬼，也会感受身体无法忍受的各种痛苦。如果出生在畜生道，身体就会变成食物，背负沉重的负担，无法吃到草料，感受难以忍受的痛苦，即使身体和生命被耗尽，为了神圣的佛法，也从未生起哪怕一丝一毫的善念。现在，为了佛法，我要供养这个污秽低劣的身体，不要阻止我生起无上的菩提心。为了成就佛陀，我要完全舍弃这个身体，当何时证悟成佛之后，我会将佛法之身赐予你们。说完之后，很多眷属都沉默不语。当时，王子站在火坑边，对那位婆罗门这样祈请说：伟大的导师，请先为我宣说神圣的佛法吧！如果寿命终结，就无法听闻佛法了。这样祈请之后，那位婆罗门说了这些偈颂：要习惯慈爱之心，抛弃嗔恨愤怒的想法，以伟大的慈悲拯救众生，对一切众生心怀慈爱，流下眼泪。要习惯伟大的欢喜，也要让其他人拥有与自己相同的佛法。被菩提心守护的，就是菩萨。

Child, relying on you! If you jump into the fire pit like our parents, all these subjects will lose their protection and dwelling. Do not let all the subjects lose their support for the sake of a few people! After praying like this, the prince announced to the many people, saying: I have been wandering in samsara for a long time, and have transferred countless bodies. When born among humans, because of desires, they do not know satisfaction, and harm and injure each other. Even if born as a god in the heavenly realm, when the life of the god is exhausted, they will experience the suffering of being separated from desires. If born in the sentient hell, they will also experience being burned by fire, boiled in copper pots, being cut and killed by swords and weapons, sinking into foul liquids, climbing the blades of swords, and experiencing countless deaths in a single day, feeling the pain of disease and death that penetrates the bones, which is indescribable. If born as a hungry ghost, they will also feel various pains that the body cannot endure. If born in the animal realm, the body will become food, bearing heavy burdens, unable to eat grass, and experiencing unbearable suffering. Even if the body and life are exhausted, for the sake of the sacred Dharma, they have never generated even a trace of virtuous thought. Now, for the sake of the Dharma, I will offer this impure and lowly body. Do not prevent me from generating the supreme Bodhicitta. In order to achieve Buddhahood, I will completely abandon this body. When will I attain enlightenment and become a Buddha, I will bestow the Dharma body upon you. After saying this, many attendants were silent. At that time, the prince stood by the fire pit and prayed to the Brahmin, saying: Great teacher, please first proclaim the sacred Dharma to me! If life ends, I will not be able to hear the Dharma. After praying like this, the Brahmin spoke these verses: One should cultivate the mind of loving-kindness, abandon thoughts of hatred and anger, save sentient beings with great compassion, cherish all beings with love, and shed tears. One should cultivate great joy, and also let others have the same Dharma as oneself. That which is protected by Bodhicitta is a Bodhisattva.
