Furthermore, just as a hawk carries a fledgling, Maudgalyayana's son ascended into the sky with his magical power, and as a man extends and retracts his arm, he reached the seashore. On that seashore, there was the corpse of a woman who had just died, exceedingly beautiful and dignified, with excellent features and possessing all the marks. A snake entered her mouth and emerged from her nose; it entered from her eyes and emerged from her ears. Maudgalyayana's son carefully observed all of this. Then, the monk Shrija asked, "Who is this woman who possesses such marks?" (Maudgalyayana's son) replied, "I will tell you when the time is right." Having said that, he continued on and saw a woman setting up a large copper pot. She poured water into the pot and lit a great fire underneath, causing the water to boil. She took off her clothes and jumped into the pot, and immediately all her hair and fur fell off, and her flesh was cooked. Even her bones fell off. When the water was poured out, the bones were exposed. Those bones were then scattered by the wind, and immediately they transformed back into a person, who scooped out the flesh from the pot and ate it. The monk Shrija was frightened and his hair stood on end. He asked, "Teacher, who is this person eating his own flesh?" Maudgalyayana replied, "I will tell you when the time is right." Having said that, he continued on and saw a large tree, with no empty space between the leaves and branches, not even the size of a needlepoint, as it was all being eaten by many worms. They were crying and wailing loudly, and everywhere there resounded a sound like that of hell beings. He asked, "Who is making this unpleasant sound?" Maudgalyayana replied, "I will tell you when the time is right." Then, he saw many yakshas with human bodies and the heads of wild animals, surrounding a person. They were holding bows and arrows, and the arrows were blazing with fire. All the yakshas shot arrows at that person, and he was seen burning completely. Seeing myself also walking, I thought, "It is rare for me to be separated from my teacher, I want to ask about the things I saw before." So I requested the teacher, "Please tell me about the things I saw before." Da Gal also said, "Now the time is right, I will tell you. If you want to know about the woman you saw before, she is the wife of a great merchant named Sarphag in Rajagriha. Because she was very beautiful, her family loved her especially. At that time, Sarphag was about to enter the ocean, and because he could not bear to leave his wife, he took his wife and about five hundred merchants into the ocean. At that time, his wife always tied three pieces of wood together to make a frame like a tent, and then placed a mirror on it. When she looked in the mirror, she thought she was very beautiful, so she developed a strong attachment. At that time, a large turtle in the ocean overturned the boat, and all five hundred merchants on the boat died. Due to the law of the ocean, the corpses did not rot, and were washed ashore by the sea. When these beings die, they will be reborn in the place they are attached to. If someone likes to be reborn in hell, then they will be reborn in hell in large numbers. It is said: If beings steal the property of the Three Jewels, or steal the property of their parents, or commit the grave sin of killing a person, they will fall into the extremely burning great hell of beings. That person was afflicted by wind or cold disease, and thought in his mind that he wanted fire. The fire of
