Having washed, he vowed that the dirt of desire be completely purified. Monks, if you want to know who that patient hermit was at that time, do not think of anyone else, it is me now. The arguing king and the four ministers, etc., were the five monks. At that time, practicing patience, he vowed to do these things first. After attaining complete enlightenment, he first completely liberated these people from suffering. The monks rejoiced and were very happy to hear what the Buddha said. This is the eleventh chapter, the chapter on patience. Chapter Twelve, the Chapter on the Charity of King Loving-Kindness's Power. Thus I have heard, at one time, the Blessed One was dwelling in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove of Prince Jeta, in the Garden of Anathapindika. At that time, the Venerable Ananda, having done the work of alms-seeking, was meditating in a grove, and the thought arose in him: It is wonderful that the Buddha, the Blessed One, has come into the world, placing many sentient beings in great happiness. What roots of virtue did the five monks, including Kaundinya, accumulate that they were able to enter as soon as the door of the Dharma was opened, were able to hear it first as soon as the drum of the Dharma was beaten, and were able to be satisfied first with the nectar of the Dharma? Thinking in this way, he arose from his seat and went to where the Buddha was, and having arrived, he told the Blessed One as he had thought. The Blessed One said: Monks, etc., in the past, I also satisfied them with flesh and blood from hunger and thirst, and made them happy, therefore I Having attained complete perfect enlightenment, I also placed them in liberation, which is not without cause and condition. The life-holder Ananda said to the Blessed One: Please show how you made them happy from hunger and thirst in the past. Many attendants will hear and understand. The Blessed One said: In the past, beyond countless eons, in this Jambudvipa, there was a king named King Loving-Kindness's Power, who ruled over eighty-four thousand small kingdoms of Jambudvipa.

Oh! That king had twenty thousand consorts and ten thousand ministers. That king was endowed with loving-kindness and compassion, practiced the four immeasurables, and cherished all beings with compassion. He upheld the ten virtues, was revered by all, and the country was without enemies, with good harvests every year, full of peace and happiness. The disease-spreading hungry ghosts, who steal and devour people's blood and essence, at that time, all the people of the country guarded their body, speech, and mind, abiding in the ten virtues. The evil hungry ghosts could not find food, and all were hungry and powerless. At that time, five yakshas came to the king and said, "Our food depends on the essence and blood of humans, by which we sustain our lives. But the king has forbidden killing, and everyone abides in the ten virtues. We cannot find food and drink, and we are in distress, on the verge of death. O King, do you not have compassion for us?" Then, the king, out of compassion for them, cut five veins from five parts of his body, and allowed the yakshas to each take a vessel and drink their fill of blood. They were filled with blood and became very happy and satisfied. After they were filled with blood, they urged the king to practice the ten virtues as much as possible. "Now I have drawn blood from my body, so that you may be satisfied and happy. In the future, when I attain perfect enlightenment, may I eliminate your three poisons with the discipline, samadhi, and wisdom of the Dharma body, and lead you from the suffering of desire to the bliss of nirvana." Ananda, the King of Loving-kindness at that time is now me. The five yakshas were the five bhikshus, and so on. I vowed that wherever I was born, I would liberate them first. Therefore, as soon as I began to teach the Dharma, they were completely liberated. The venerable Ananda and the many attendants rejoiced in the Buddha's words and praised them. The Twelfth Chapter, the Gift of King Loving-kindness. The Thirteenth Chapter, the Subjugation of the Six Teachers. Volume Three, Thus I have heard.
