Then, both of his parents died. After the parents died, that child thought: According to the customs of the Brahmins, one must practice celibacy for forty-eight years before taking a wife. I too shall practice celibacy for forty-eight years. So, he practiced celibacy for forty-eight years and then took a wife. His wife was beautiful, pleasing to look at, and lovely, but she was also promiscuous and desired men. Living with an old husband, she was not satisfied, so she sought other men. Then one day, she had an idea: As long as this old man is here, I will have no opportunity to sleep with other men. I should send him to another place. So she said to the Brahmin: Since there is nothing in your house, what are you doing taking me as a wife? I will return to my parents' house. However, I can easily find food. The Brahmin said: Good woman, do not be unhappy. We Brahmins can also live by begging. I will go to another place to seek wealth and then return. Having said this, he gave his wife some food and left. After he left, he found many karshapanas, took them, and set out for Shravasti (Śrāvastī). As he was on the road, he was robbed by bandits and became very distressed. He thought: If I go home, there will surely be a great quarrel with that Brahmin woman. I should give up this kind of life and go into the dense forest and die. So he went into the dense forest, tied himself to a tree branch with a rope, and prepared to hang himself. At that moment, the Blessed One thought: If this Brahmin were to renounce in my teachings, abandon all afflictions, and realize the state of an Arhat, he would not be doing such foolish things. So, the Blessed One disappeared from Shravasti (Śrāvastī) and went to that dense forest, and said to the Brahmin: Brahmin, do not do foolish things. I will give you wealth. Having said this, the Blessed One gave him treasure.

Then, (the Buddha) said, "Brahmin, these are your possessions, do not give up your precious life." Having said this, the Blessed One returned to the monastery. After that, the Brahmin took those possessions back to his own home, and with those possessions he increased the wealth of his home, and then he began to give alms and do good deeds. Later one day, he had the thought: "The Shramana Gautama is both helpful and pure to me, I should abandon my life at home and go to him to become a monk." So, he abandoned his family and went to where the Blessed One was, and bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One, and sat before him to listen to the Dharma. The Blessed One understood his thoughts, habits, faculties, wisdom, and nature, and taught him the Dharma that was appropriate for him. Therefore, that Brahmin, while sitting on that seat, destroyed the twenty high peaks of the mountain of the view of the assembly of destruction with the Vajra of Wisdom, and realized the fruit of entering the stream. After seeing the truth, he stood up from his seat, draped his upper garment over one shoulder, and bowed with folded palms in the direction of the Blessed One, and said to the Blessed One: "Venerable, if I can be ordained and receive full ordination and obtain the status of a Bhikshu in the well-spoken Dharma and Discipline, I would also like to practice Brahmacharya in the presence of the Blessed One." Then, the Blessed One ordained him with the words "Bhikshu, come here," and gave him full ordination, and also taught him the scriptures. He also abandoned all defilements through diligence, practice, and effort, and realized the state of an Arhat. Then, the Bhikshus said to the Buddha Blessed One: "Venerable, this Brahmin was afraid of poverty and wanted to commit suicide, but the Blessed One gave him a large amount of wealth, and see, he has been placed in the eternal liberation and the blissful Nirvana." The Blessed One said: "Not only now, but also in the past, this Brahmin was afraid of poverty and wanted to commit suicide, and I gave him a large amount of wealth,

Listen to how to abide in the path of the ten virtuous actions. O monks, in the past, in the city of Varanasi, there was a king named Great Power who ruled. During his reign, the country was rich, prosperous, peaceful, and had good harvests. It was filled with people and a large population. Disputes and battles were pacified. There were no conflicts, internal strife, thieves, diseases, or famines. It was abundant with rice, sugarcane, cattle, and buffaloes. There was no harm, no thorns, and he ruled the country righteously, like treating an only son. That king was also of a loving nature, full of compassion, loving towards sentient beings, and fond of generosity. He gave generously and accumulated merit, giving whatever they desired to monks, Brahmins, the poor and destitute, and the hungry. He prepared many foods and drinks and gave them to creatures living in the sky, water, and land. He also placed the people of the world on the path of the ten virtuous actions. Then, he vowed, "From now on, I will give everything to all sentient beings." Thereafter, because he ruled righteously, both humans and non-humans also strived to protect, rescue, and hide him. They sent down good rains in due season and made the grains grow abundantly. The neighboring king of the shade of the sun to that king ruled unrighteously, harming many people living in the country through wooden yokes, fetters, handcuffs, and whippings. His people, threatened by heavy taxes and tributes, fled and settled in the territory of King Great Power. Then one day, the king of the shade of the sun, accompanied by many ministers, went out to inspect the country. He saw that villages, towns, cities, forest villages, and markets were all deserted. He asked the ministers, "Why has the country become so desolate?" The ministers replied, "O god, because of the territory of King Great Power.
