O Possessor! O you who have the limit of finding fault! O you who have the limit of contention! O you who have the limit of strife! Monk, having obtained peace of mind and seeing the truth, this is the limit of not having fought for a long time! The limit of not finding fault! The limit of not contending! The limit of not having strife! Monk, the Blessed One has bestowed upon me the grace to follow the Dharma, and I think thus: After I die from this place, may I be equal to all people and be born into a family that is rich, wealthy, and has great possessions, many goods and utensils, many possessions, wealth, grain, gold, silver, treasuries, and many collections of granaries; and many friends, companions, siblings, and relatives; and many male servants, female servants, employees, and those who live on wages. May I be born equally into such a family. Then, may I gradually grow up, my senses mature, give offerings and accumulate merit, shave my hair and beard, wear dyed robes, and with sincere faith, renounce the household life and become a monk. Monk, may I dwell appropriately, and if I receive instructions, may I act according to the instructions. Thus, if I dwell appropriately, the end of suffering is like that, I think. If I do not receive instructions, then may I be born into the body of a god with form, my senses not impaired and my senses complete, possessing all limbs and parts, with a good complexion, possessing light within myself, walking in the sky, eating joyful food, possessing joyful food, long-lived and dwelling there for a long time. May I be born without rival. Having died from this divine body, and having abandoned the life of a non-human, may I enter the womb without delusion. My mind delights in discipline, and I will not be impoverished by instructions. Relying on the path of the teachings, and engaging in pure conduct, may I practice wandering for alms. Having dwelt appropriately, if I receive instructions, may I act according to the instructions given. That is the end of my suffering. If it does not happen that way, the end of life is

E! Where is the Tushita heaven? May I be born there. Blessed One, I have entered the stream. Well-gone One, I have entered the stream. I also have the hope of returning once. The Blessed One said: Kausika, well done, well done! You have that fortune, and it is obtained through diligence. Indra prayed: Who can bring me peace, and ensure my entry into the stream? There is no one other than you, Blessed One, there is no other teaching than yours. Such a vast and excellent first foundation, where else can it be seen? What kind of excellent attainment is this? I have never obtained it from anywhere else before. Venerable one, I am here now, existing and acting as a deity, I have obtained long life, Wise one, please accept me in this way. When this Dharma discourse was spoken, Indra, the lord of the gods, and eighty thousand gods and beings, all generated the stainless and pure Dharma eye, free from dust. They realized the truth, died from that seat, and were reborn on that very seat. Thus, their death and rebirth were imperceptible to the blinking of an eye, to visibility, and to the touch of the body, only the Blessed One knew it. Indra, the lord of the gods, and the Asura's daughter, Goodness, and others also realized it. Then, the Asura's daughter, Goodness, and others said to Indra, the lord of the gods: Kausika, have you died and been reborn? Indra said: Goodness, I have died and been reborn, and while sitting here, I have regained my life. Then, Indra, the lord of the gods, realized the truth, rejoiced, was satisfied, greatly rejoiced, and was delighted. Having generated joy and a happy mind, he rose from his seat, bared one shoulder, and bowed with folded hands towards the direction where the Blessed One was, and said to the Blessed One: Venerable one, I am a noble one! I am a noble one! From now until the end of my life, please accept me as a lay follower, taking refuge with joy from the heart. Then, Indra, the lord of the gods, said to Pancasikha, the son of the Gandharvas: Son, you are helpful to me
