There, he was attending to the monks, and also generating the samadhi of loving-kindness. Therefore, in one lifetime, he took refuge and guarded the precepts. At the time of death, he made a prayer: "With this root of virtue, wherever I may be born, may I be handsome, pleasing, and beautiful. May I please such a teacher, and may I not displease him. May I go forth in that very teaching, abandon all defilements, and may I realize the state of an arhat." Monks, what do you think? The king's son at that time was none other than this boy. There, after honoring the monastic community of the Hearers of the Fully Awakened Buddha Kashyapa, by the ripening of the karma of making aspirations, wherever he was born, he was born into a wealthy, rich, and prosperous family. Monks, I have attained the same, the same power, the same deeds, and the same means as the Fully Awakened Buddha Kashyapa. He pleased me, did not displease me, and having gone forth in my own teaching, abandoned all defilements, and realized the state of an arhat. By the ripening of the karma of cultivating loving-kindness there, wherever he was born, he became handsome, pleasing, and beautiful. Furthermore, in the teachings of the Fully Awakened Buddha Kashyapa, he went forth, and there he practiced celibacy for one lifetime, and having fully matured the faculties, he has now attained complete liberation. The story called "Wild Man" is as follows: The Blessed One was residing in Shravasti. At that time, in the forest between Shravasti and Rajagriha, in the depths of the Shimala forest, about five hundred wild men were dwelling in anger. They lived there, intimidating many people. Then one day, they robbed many guests there, and the merchants went to King Prasenajit, and reported to the king. King Prasenajit sent Prince Jetasena, who was endowed with an army of four divisions.

He sent someone, and that person captured those five hundred wild men, brought them back alive, and presented them to King Gsalgyal. Then, King Gsalgyal ordered the execution of those five hundred wild men, and when the executioners were leading those five hundred wild men to the execution site, the Bhagavan Buddha, the guide of the one and only path, was the master of the two kinds of knowledge, possessed of wisdom, skilled in the three unmixed mindfulnesses, fearless with the four fearlessnesses, liberated from the five realms of existence, skilled in the six sense bases, whose field of activity was the seven branches of enlightenment, meditating on the eight liberations, entering into the nine successive abidings, possessed of the ten powers. Those who roar the great roar of the true lion, according to the Dharma, three times during the day and three times during the night, that is, six times day and night, observe the world with the eye of the Buddha: Who is declining? Who is prospering? Who is poor? Who is miserable? Who has harm? Who is poor, miserable, and has harm? Who is inclined towards the lower realms? Who is falling into the lower realms? Who has fallen into the lower realms? Who is it that I should rescue from the lower realms and place in the heavenly realms, liberation, and fruition? Who is sinking in the mud of misconduct, whom I should pull out by the hand? Who is without the seven noble riches, whom I should make possess the power of the seven noble riches? Who has not generated roots of virtue, whom I should cause to generate? Who has already generated roots of virtue, whom I should cause to fully ripen? Who has already fully ripened roots of virtue, whom I should pierce with the sword of wisdom? For whom should I make the world adorned by the appearance of the Buddha have fruit? In this way, the eye of wisdom operates. The ocean is the abode of aquatic creatures, the waves of time may recede, but for the beings to be tamed, the Buddha does not miss the opportunity. Then, the Bhagavan, thinking that the time had come to tame the five hundred wild men, disappeared from the garden of Prince Gyalje and went to Rajagriha (Rājagṛha, present-day Rajgir in Bihar). Then, King Gsalgyal saw the Bhagavan from afar.
