He said, 'Today, you go to Prince Jeta's Grove and sweep.' Having said this, that householder left. That Brahmin also began to sweep in Prince Jeta's Grove. Then, the Blessed One thought, 'This Brahmin will generate an irreversible mind towards unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment.' Thinking this, the Blessed One blessed the small area that had been swept, making it appear as if it had not been swept at all. He was distracted by this, and the sun set. Then he thought, 'Now I will not go to listen.' He prepared a sleeping place in Prince Jeta's Grove itself. Then, the Blessed One said to the Venerable Ananda, 'Ananda, go to the Brahmin's dwelling in Prince Jeta's Grove, and sit near him. Whatever he asks you, you should answer.' Furthermore, he instructed the monks, 'I have taught the monks to abide by concealing virtues and confessing sins. However, out of compassion for this Brahmin, whoever has attained whatever kind of miraculous power, let him display that kind of miraculous power.' The Venerable Ananda replied, 'Venerable One, I will do so.' Then, the Venerable Ananda instructed the monks, 'Go to the place where the Brahmin is staying in Prince Jeta's Grove, and sit near him.' After instructing them in this way, as he sat there, the monks began to display various miraculous transformations. Then, the Brahmin saw this and asked the Venerable Ananda, 'Venerable Ananda, who are these people who are so miraculous and so powerful? What kind of people are they?' The Venerable Ananda said, 'They are the Blessed One's Shravaka disciples.' Then, the Brahmin thought, 'If the disciples are so perfect, what need is there to mention the ascetic Gautama? What kind of person would he be?' Then, the Blessed One generated a worldly mind, saying, 'Alas, in the evening

It would be good if the four great kings would come to see me. It would be good if the lord of the gods, Indra, would come to see me in the middle of the night. It would be good if Brahma, the lord of the Saha world, would come to see me at dawn, he thought. Thus, as soon as the Blessed One made the aspiration, the four great kings, the lord of the gods, Indra, and Brahma, the lord of the Saha world, came to see the Blessed One. Then, that Brahmin saw him and asked the Venerable Ananda: Venerable Ananda, who are these people? The Venerable Ananda said: These are the four great kings, the lord of the gods, Indra, and Brahma, the lord of the Saha world, who have come to see the Blessed One. Then, as soon as he heard that, that Brahmin became very happy with the Blessed One, like a human being can also attain such a state. Alas, may I also become a Buddha and appear in the world, he said. Then he thought, such a state cannot be achieved by merely wishing for it, but I will give alms and do good deeds, and pray to attain the unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment. When morning dawned, he bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One and set out for Shravasti. The householder Anathapindika also went to Jeta Grove with five hundred servants, and the householder Anathapindika saw that Brahmin from afar. Having seen him, he said to the Brahmin: Brahmin, have you seen any rare and wonderful things in Jeta Grove? Then, that Brahmin told the householder Anathapindika everything. Then, the householder Anathapindika said to the Brahmin: Brahmin, since you have seen such rare and wonderful things, what do you desire? That Brahmin said: I desire the unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment, but, householder, such a state cannot be achieved by merely wishing for it, so I will beg and give alms, and do good deeds.

wished to do so. Then, as soon as the householder Anathapindika heard of it, he gave that Brahmin a great heap of wealth. That Brahmin also invited the Sangha of monks, headed by the Buddha, for three months, and prepared all the necessary items in the grove of Prince Jeta. For three months, he served the Sangha of monks, headed by the Buddha, with all kinds of provisions. On the final day, he satisfied the Sangha of monks, headed by the Buddha, with a hundred flavors of food, and offered the Blessed One a robe worth a hundred thousand. He also offered each of the other monks a pair of cloths, and made a prayer for attaining the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, saying: Alas! By this root of virtue, may I become the Tathagata, Arhat, perfectly enlightened Buddha, endowed with knowledge and conduct, the Sugata, the knower of the world, the tamer of beings, the unsurpassed teacher of gods and humans, the Buddha, the Blessed One, in a blind world without a guide or teacher. Then the Blessed One said to that Brahmin: Brahmin, well done! well done! Brahmin, in the future, in a blind world without a guide or teacher, you will become the Tathagata, Arhat, perfectly enlightened Buddha, endowed with knowledge and conduct, the Sugata, the knower of the world, the tamer of beings, the unsurpassed teacher of gods and humans, the Buddha, the Blessed One, named Ashoka. The story called "The Weak One" is as follows: The setting of the story is that the householder Anathapindika was residing in Shravasti. Eventually, he had seven sons, and he named them in accordance with their lineage. He raised them with milk, yogurt, butter, ghee, and the essence of ghee, and they grew up vigorously like lotuses in a lake. Then one day, the householder Anathapindika thought: I should place these children of mine among friends. I should place them among those who have faith, and I should not place them among those who do not have faith. If they are placed among those who do not have faith, then
