Making the Transcendent One pleased, not making displeased, having gone forth in the doctrine of the Bhagavan, having abandoned all afflictions, actually realizing the state of an Arhat. The Bhagavan spoke: It is due to the power of aspiration. Asked: Where did this monk make aspirations? The Bhagavan spoke: Monks, in the past, in a past time, in a certain hermitage village, there was a householder named Black, who was rich, had much wealth, great enjoyment, was completely possessed, wide and vast, equal to the wealth of Vaishravana, competing with the wealth of Vaishravana. Later, in the spring season, he went to a pleasure garden where the tree branches were dense and the flowers were blooming. At the time when Buddhas do not appear in the world, solitary Buddhas, compassionate to the poor and destitute, dwell in remote places, being the sole objects of veneration in the world. A solitary Buddha, wanting to go for alms in that hermitage, heard the sound of music in that pleasure garden. He thought: Why should I go to the hermitage for this hard-to-fill belly? I will go into this pleasure garden, and my alms will come from here. Then, that solitary Buddha went to that pleasure garden. That householder saw him, beautiful in body and beautiful in mind. Having seen him, that householder became very pleased with that solitary Buddha. Having become pleased, he offered food and said: Noble one, where do you dwell? I will serve you. The solitary Buddha said: I live in such and such a forest. Having said this, that solitary Buddha left. Then, that householder offered food and also served him in that forest from time to time. Then, again one day, that householder went to see him, and saw that solitary Buddha had settled under a tree, sitting in the lotus position like a Naga king coiling his body and sleeping. Then, that householder saw that solitary Buddha dwelling in great solitude, and he also developed the mind of wanting to go forth. Then, he went to that solitary Buddha.
