May the Blessed One show me the Dharma. Shariputra, when the feeling is the same, and the experience is the same, then if that is the case, suffering becomes self-made. Shariputra, I do not say that. Shariputra, when the feeling is different, and the experience is different, then if that is the case, suffering becomes other-made. Shariputra, I do not say that. Shariputra, when the feeling is the same, and the experience is the same, and when the feeling is different, and the experience is different, then if that is the case, suffering becomes both self-made and other-made. Shariputra, I do not say that. Shariputra, when all the causes of suffering disappear, then if that is the case, suffering becomes neither self-made, nor other-made, nor arising from a cause. Shariputra, I do not say that. The Thus-Gone One does not rely on those two extremes, but teaches the Dharma of the Middle Way, which is to say, this being, that arises; this arising, that arises. That is to say, conditioned by ignorance, actions arise; conditioned by actions, consciousness arises; conditioned by consciousness, name and form arise; conditioned by name and form, the six sense sources arise; conditioned by the six sense sources, contact arises; conditioned by contact, feeling arises; conditioned by feeling, craving arises; conditioned by craving, grasping arises; conditioned by grasping, becoming arises; conditioned by becoming, birth arises; conditioned by birth, old age and death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, displeasure, and disturbance arise. Thus, this great mass of suffering arises. That is to say, this not being, that does not arise; this ceasing, that ceases. That is to say, with the cessation of ignorance, actions cease; with the cessation of actions, consciousness ceases; with the cessation of consciousness, name and form cease; with the cessation of name and form, the six sense sources cease; with the cessation of the six sense sources, contact ceases; with the cessation of contact, feeling ceases; feeling

When ignorance ceases, actions cease. When actions cease, consciousness ceases. When consciousness ceases, name and form cease. When name and form cease, the six sense bases cease. When the six sense bases cease, contact ceases. When contact ceases, feeling ceases. When feeling ceases, craving ceases. When craving ceases, grasping ceases. When grasping ceases, becoming ceases. When becoming ceases, birth ceases. When birth ceases, aging and death, sorrow, lamentation, pain, distress, and agitation all cease. Thus, this entire mass of suffering ceases. While this discourse was being spoken, to the naked ascetic Udayin and his clansmen arose the dustless, stainless eye of the Dhamma regarding all phenomena. Then the naked ascetic Udayin and his clansmen saw the Dhamma, found the Dhamma, understood the Dhamma, reached the depths of the Dhamma, transcended doubt, transcended hesitation, not relying on others, not mixed with others, having obtained fearlessness in the Dharmas taught by the Teacher. Then, to where the Blessed One was, he bowed with his palms joined together, and said to the Blessed One: Venerable sir, I have attained the supreme. I have entered the supreme. Venerable sir, I go to the Blessed One for refuge, to the Dhamma for refuge, and to the Sangha for refuge. May the Blessed One accept me as a lay follower. I have generated true faith, and from now on, I will wholeheartedly take refuge. After saying this, the naked ascetic Udayin and his clansmen praised and rejoiced in the words spoken by the Blessed One, bowed their heads at the feet of the Blessed One, and then departed from the Blessed One. Then, the naked ascetic Udayin and his clansmen, after departing from the Blessed One, were soon beaten to death by a cowherd woman with a club. When he was dying, his faculties and the color of his skin, like a field, were completely pure, and the color of his skin was white. Then, many monks, in the early morning, having put on their lower robes and robes, and carrying their bowls, went to Rajagriha for alms. When many monks were walking for alms in Rajagriha, the naked ascetic Udayin and his clansmen, having requested the Blessed One on the way, and having departed from the Blessed One, were soon beaten to death by a cowherd woman with a club. When he was dying, his faculties and the color of his skin, like a field, were also completely
