The Karma Hundred Thousand. The Karma Hundred Thousand. Summary Verse Seven (Lower). The Karma Hundred Thousand, Volume Twenty-Seven, named "Drum Sound Above." The origin of the story is that the Buddha was residing near the Nairanjana River. At that time, about five hundred ascetics lived in a forest. They stayed there, performing fire sacrifices. The Buddha, the Bhagavan, is the guide of the one and only path, has attained mastery over the two kinds of knowledge and wisdom, is skilled in the three unmixed close placements of mindfulness, is fearless with the four fearlessnesses, is liberated from the cycle of the five destinies, is skilled in the six sense bases, has the seven branches of enlightenment as his field of activity, meditates on the eight liberations, enters into the nine successive abidings, possesses the ten powers, and roars the great and true lion's roar. According to the Dharma, three times during the day and three times during the night, that is, six times during the day and night, The Buddha observes the world with the eye of a Buddha: Who is prospering? Who is declining? Who is poor and destitute? Who has become miserable? Who is associated with harm? Who is poor, miserable, and associated with harm? Who is inclined towards the lower realms? Who is falling into the lower realms? Who has fallen into the lower realms? Who can I rescue from the lower realms and place in the heavenly realms, liberation, and fruition? Who is sinking in the mire of misconduct, who can I pull out by the hand? Who does not have the seven noble riches, who can I place in the sovereign position of the seven noble riches? Who has not generated roots of virtue, who can I cause to generate them? Who has already generated roots of virtue, who can I cause to fully mature? Who has fully matured roots of virtue, who can I pierce with the sword of wisdom? Who can I adorn the world with the appearance of a Buddha, making it bear fruit? He engages in observation with such wisdom. The ocean is the abode of aquatic creatures, the waves of the seasons may pass, but for beings to be tamed, the Buddha's time for teaching will never be missed. Then, the Bhagavan thought: The time for taming these five hundred ascetics has come. So, the Bhagavan thought about how to make all the fire pits used by these five hundred ascetics for fire sacrifices,

Upon seeing the footprints of the World Honored One, he blessed them in such a way that they could not ignite fire thereafter. Then they thought to themselves: 'Because of the power of these footprints, we are unable to light fires in our hearths. It seems that these footprints are auspicious. Could these be the footprints of the Great Lord?' Then those five hundred ascetics offered sacrificial items to those footprints of the Buddha. Through the power of the Buddha, those sacrificial offerings ignited on their own, and the flames reached the Brahma realm. Then the ascetics, upon seeing this, were amazed and thought: 'The Great Lord is watching over us!' Then, in order to guide them, the World Honored One blessed one footprint after another until they reached the garden of Prince Jeta. Then those ascetics, seeing the manifestation of one footprint after another from the place of the fire sacrifice, thought to themselves: 'The Great Lord has come this way.' So they made offerings to those footprints, one after another, and eventually they entered the garden of Prince Jeta. At that time, the World Honored One was sitting amidst hundreds of thousands of attendants, teaching the Dharma. Then those five hundred ascetics saw the Buddha, the World Honored One, whose body was well adorned and decorated with the thirty-two marks of a great being, appearing like a body of fire, like flames fueled by ghee, like a butter lamp placed in a golden vessel, like a stupa adorned with various precious jewels. They saw the Buddha, the World Honored One, who was bright with wisdom, without impurities, and possessed of purity. Having seen him, they were filled with great joy. The joy was like that experienced by sentient beings who, through the accumulation of virtuous roots, see the Buddha for the first time. Even after twelve years of cultivating tranquility and abiding in meditative equipoise, such joy would not arise. Having seen him in this way, they went to where the World Honored One was, prostrated with their heads at the feet of the World Honored One, and sat before him in order to listen to the Dharma. Then the World Honored One
