Then (the snake said): Either you give yourself up, or kill the king. Having said that, the venomous snake manifested and faced the king. That person retorted: Even if you lose your life, I will not give up the king's life. You must make this king's poison disappear. Having said that, as soon as the venomous snake heard these words, it immediately removed the king's poison. After that, the king was very pleased and gave the hunter a pile of wealth and sent him away. Monks, what do you think? Who was the hunter at that time, who was abiding in the conduct of a Bodhisattva? It was I myself. Who was the one who begged the human king at that time? It was Devadatta himself. Even at that time, he was still ungrateful, unappreciative, and repaid kindness with evil. The Hundred Deeds Sutra, the thirty-fifth chapter, the story called "The Foolish One" is like this: The story took place in Shravasti. At that time, in the place of Shurparaka (Sanskrit: Śrāvastī, an ancient Indian city, now translated as Shravasti), there lived a householder named Shurparaka. He married a wife because of karmic conditions, and he played and rejoiced with his wife, and was very happy. Later, his wife became pregnant. After nine or ten months, she gave birth to a boy who was handsome, pleasing to the eye, and very beautiful. A grand birth celebration was held, and he was named "The Foolish One." After that, the boy named "The Foolish One" was raised and nurtured with milk, yogurt, butter, ghee, and the essence of ghee. When he grew up, he learned writing, arithmetic, telling jokes, manual calculation, subtraction, hiding, fighting, clothing appraisal, gem appraisal, treasure appraisal, spice appraisal, medicine appraisal, elephant appraisal, horse appraisal, and weapon appraisal. He was proficient in writing, skilled in reading, intelligent, efficient in doing things, upright in mind, and proficient in eight kinds of appraisal. Later, one day, his body was covered with small bumps like mustard seeds. These bumps matured and burst, and his body was covered with wounds like scorched sores. After that, his father invited all the doctors and used various medicines to treat him, but they were unable to cure him. No matter how much

It became so severe that pus and blood flowed from his body, and a foul odor arose. Then, his whole body was smeared with various perfumes, covered with clothes, and treated. After that, his brothers saw it and changed his name, saying, "This child's body is covered with clothes and ornaments and treated, so his name shall be 'Covered'." Then, some people knew him as 'Ignorant,' and some knew him as 'Covered.' Later, his parents died. After his parents died, all the affairs were managed by that child. Whatever he did, whether it was renting fields, doing business, or doing shipping, everything he did would fail and not succeed. Then, that ignorant householder thought to himself, "Whatever I do here, whether it is renting fields, doing business, or doing shipping, everything I do will fail and not succeed, then, is there any immortal Dharma in the world that will not perish?" Then, a close friend, friend, brother, and an ancient god of the old elders of that ignorant householder went to the door of the ignorant householder's house, illuminated the whole house with great light, and said this to the ignorant householder: "Householder, do you not know what is the Dharma that perishes in the world and what is the Dharma that does not perish?" The householder said, "God, I do not know what is the Dharma that perishes in the world and what is the Dharma that does not perish. Then, God, do you know what is the Dharma that perishes in the world and what is the Dharma that does not perish?" The god said, "Householder, I also do not know what is the Dharma that perishes in the world and what is the Dharma that does not perish." The householder said, "God, then who knows what is the Dharma that perishes in the world and what is the Dharma that does not perish?" The god said, "Householder, there is someone who knows, that is the Shramana Gautama, the son of the Shakya clan, who has gone forth from the Shakya clan, shaved his hair and beard, and wears colored robes..."
