More than suffering, they thought, 'We would rather abandon this one (king),' so they abandoned the king, and (the throne) fell to the king under the sun. Then, King Great Power Army (king's name) also felt it, thinking, 'These ministers have abandoned me,' so he settled in the forest, and he went there, eating roots and fruits and living. After he left, the king under the sun came, subdued the people, and asked, 'Where did the king go?' The ministers said, 'The god has fled.' Then, the king under the sun completely subdued that place, distributed the rewards to all the warriors, and settled in that place. Then, at that time, in a village in a mountain valley, there lived a poor Brahmin, impoverished by life. Eventually, he had many sons and daughters. It was difficult to support them, and there was also a famine in that place. He could not support his family. Then, the Brahmin heard that in Varanasi (ancient Indian place name, now Benares) there lived a king named King Great Power Army, and that king was of a compassionate nature, full of compassion, loving beings, fond of giving, and giving everything. He thought, 'I should go to him. If I go to him, I can get wealth from him,' so he went to Varanasi. When he arrived there, he heard that King Great Power Army had settled in the forest. As soon as he heard this news, the Brahmin became very distressed and thought, 'If I go to the ascetic forest to see him, even if he is there, he might give me wealth.' So he went to the place where the Bodhisattva was, and when he arrived there, the Bodhisattva pleased him with gentle words, gave him roots and fruits, and asked, 'What have you come here for?' The Brahmin said, 'Now there is a famine, and I have become poor and harmed, and I have many people to support. I cannot support them. I heard that King Great Power Army gives everything, thinking, 'He will become my source of wealth,' so I have come to you.' The Bodhisattva said, 'Haven't you heard that he has settled in the forest? Where does he have wealth now?'

Where is it? Then, as soon as he heard this, the Brahmin despaired and fainted, falling to the ground. Then, the Bodhisattva sprinkled water on his face and revived him. Then, he thought, "What do I need such a life for? I should go into the dense forest and die." Thinking this, he took a rope and entered the dense forest, tied it to a tree trunk, and hanged himself. The Bodhisattva saw him, and as soon as he saw him, compassion arose. He thought, "If this Brahmin takes me to the enemy, they will give him a pile of treasures." So, he said to the Brahmin, "Brahmin, do not hesitate, I will cut off your poverty. Brahmin, come here. Bind me tightly and take me to such and such a king, and he will give you a great pile of treasures." The Brahmin said, "I dare not bind someone like you." The Bodhisattva said, "Do not hesitate, bind me and take me away. There is no other way than that." Then, the Brahmin said, "I will do as you wish." Having said that, the Brahmin bound the Bodhisattva tightly and set off for Varanasi. Then, many people saw him and recognized him. They went to the king and reported, but the king did not believe them and drove them out of the palace. They came to the Bodhisattva and saw the Brahmin tightly binding the Bodhisattva and taking him away. Seeing this, they asked, "How did you take him away?" He said, "This is the enemy of the gods. I was living in the forest of asceticism, and I seized him with my power and took him away." Then, the king thought, "This king is tall and strong, but this Brahmin is weak. How could he have captured him? This person is very compassionate and loves sentient beings, so he must have bound himself so that this person would not return empty-handed." So, he said to the Brahmin, "Brahmin, tell me truthfully how you captured him." Then, the Brahmin told the king everything.
