It is difficult to reach. They were unable to report to the Buddha Bhagavan, so they asked the Venerable Ananda: Venerable Ananda, who is this sentient being who can remember all past lives and can speak, talking with the Bhagavan? The Venerable Ananda said: Please report to the Buddha Bhagavan. They said: The Buddha Bhagavan is difficult to report to, we cannot report to the Buddha Bhagavan. Ananda said: Even I find it difficult to report to the Buddha Bhagavan, but out of compassion for you, I will report. Having said that, the Venerable Ananda draped his upper garment over one shoulder, and with his palms joined together, he bowed towards where the Bhagavan was, and reported to the Bhagavan, saying: Venerable, who is this sentient being who can remember past lives and can speak, talking with the Bhagavan? The Bhagavan said: Ananda, this sentient being is an evildoer, he has committed many sins. Ananda, in the past, in this Mithila country, there was a king named Evil One who was king, and that king became very jealous. When the queen's entourage served him and wanted to go to the garden or anywhere else, he would clear all the roads, and the windows and doors would also be covered with thick curtains. If occasionally someone out of a hundred suddenly saw the queen's entourage, he would gouge out that person's eyes, and in this way, he caused many sentient beings to lose their eyes. Then one day, his queen's entourage served him and went into the garden. At that time when the Buddhas Bhagavan were not living in the world, those Pratyekabuddhas who had compassion for the poor and destitute, lived in remote places, and like a rhinoceros horn, were the only objects of offering in the world, appeared in the world. A Pratyekabuddha came from that road, and the king's attendants did not notice, he was facing the queen's

Coming before him, those women saw the beauty of his body and the beauty of his mind, and they became happy. Having become happy, they also unveiled their faces, bowing and prostrating. Then the king also heard of this. As soon as he heard, he arose with great anger from the root of jealousy. He angrily commanded the king's attendants, saying, 'You, today, gouge out the two eyes of that renunciate!' Then, as soon as they heard this, the king's attendants seized that Pratyekabuddha and gouged out his two eyes. That Pratyekabuddha, because the karma of the past was about to ripen, did not even remember his miraculous powers, let alone illusions. Then that Pratyekabuddha thought, 'These afflictions have manifested and declined. If I wander in samsara and experience great suffering for a long time, that would not be good. I must make an end to this.' Thinking, he rose into the sky above and displayed miracles of burning, walking, raining, and flashing lightning. Ordinary people are quickly made to have faith by miracles. That king, like a tree cut with a saw, bowed at his feet and said, 'O possessor of great fortune, be appeased. Please deliver me from the hand that is sinking into the mire of wrongdoing.' That great being also completely passed into nirvana because of that basis, and the king made offerings to his relics and made aspirations, saying, 'Like this, may I not experience the fruit of this karma of causing harm to such a pure being. Like this, again, by this root of virtue of those who have been honored, may I be born in whatever place I am born, in a family that is rich, with much wealth, and great enjoyment. May I please a teacher who is even more excellent than this. May I not displease him. Having renounced in the teaching of that very one, may I abandon all afflictions and realize the state of an Arhat.' Monks, what do you think? Who was that king who became ugly at that time? It was the blind one.
