After dividing and giving to them, they expelled me from my home, so I had to carry a yoke and a bowl, begging and wandering in other people's homes. Then, the Blessed One said to that Brahmin: Brahmin, you have learned the verses from me and fully understood them, can you proclaim them while those children are sitting in the assembly? The Brahmin replied: Alas, Gautama, I cannot do it. Then, the Blessed One at that time spoke a verse: Those who are born to be separated, why accumulate all the wealth? I associate those with teeth, but I have been expelled from my home. Those who abandoned me because my wealth was exhausted, they are no longer there. Those who have the appearance of demon sons, calling 'father, father' but not respecting. Like an old horse that has run out of fodder, when youth has faded away, the young people make the old father beg in other people's homes. Since the sons are of no help to rely on, I choose this yoke. Through the power of the merits of this yoke, it can both drive away the oxen that come to kick, and ward off snakes and man-eating dogs. It can go forward in the darkness, and discern directions in terrible places. Even if beaten, it can rely on me. Then, after the Brahmin heard these verses spoken by the Blessed One, he went to the midst of the children and spoke them. As soon as the children heard these words, they immediately apologized to their father and made him the master of the house as before. Then one day, the Brahmin thought: All the glory and fortune that I possess are due to the kindness of the Blessed One Gautama. I must offer the Blessed One Gautama a meal and offer valuable clothes. So, the Brahmin invited the Blessed One and offered many clean and delicious foods, and offered valuable clothes. Then, the Blessed One taught the Dharma that was appropriate to the Brahmin and his children. Then, the Brahmin and his retinue, while sitting on those very seats, destroyed the twenty high peaks of the mountain of the view of the aggregates with the wisdom vajra, and realized the fruit of stream-entry. Having seen the truth, he rose from his seat, baring one shoulder

Then, approaching the Blessed One, he bowed with folded palms towards where the Blessed One was, and said this to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, if I am able to go forth and receive the full ordination in the well-spoken Dharma-Vinaya, and obtain the status of a Bhikshu, then I also wish to practice the pure conduct in the presence of the Blessed One." Then, the Blessed One ordained that Brahmin with the words, "Come, Bhikshu," and conferred the full ordination. The Blessed One also made a prediction for him. Through diligence, practice, and effort, he abandoned all defilements and directly realized the state of an Arhat. Then, the Bhikshus asked the Buddha, the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, this Brahmin, old and frail, was driven out of his home by his sons, and the Blessed One, with skillful means, restored him to his former state of need, and you see that he has achieved the ultimate goal of eternity and is placed in the peaceful Nirvana." The Blessed One said: "Not only now, but also in the past, this Brahmin was driven out of his home by his sons, and I restored him to his former state of need. Listen to how I made him abide in the four Dhyanas and the five Abhijñās. Bhikshus, in the past, in a city called Champa, there lived a householder who had seven sons in succession. When those sons grew up, they became proficient in the eight kinds of examination. That householder divided all the property among his sons and gave it to them. That householder also became old and frail, and was driven out of his home by his sons. He, being old, carried goods and set out for another country. At that time, in a place of asceticism, there lived a hermit with great magical powers and great strength. He came to the vicinity of that place of asceticism, and the hermit saw that householder and said: 'Householder, old and frail, why are you setting out for another country?' Then, that householder told the hermit the story in detail. Then, the hermit said: 'Householder, how can I make your sons...'
