Then, when he grew up, he became arrogant due to the superiority of his appearance, and he would not speak frankly to anyone, nor would he bow or rise. Then, at that time, his parents thought: We must eliminate this child's pride caused by his appearance. If we do not do so, this child will not become peaceful. At that time, in a certain place in Varanasi, there lived a sage with five superknowledges, who had great magical powers and strength. Then, that Brahmin pleaded with that sage, saying: This child is arrogant due to the superiority of his appearance, and he does not speak frankly to anyone, nor does he bow or rise. Please eliminate his pride caused by his appearance. Then, that sage did not say anything to that Brahmin, and he agreed. Then, that Brahmin left from that sage and said to his son: Son, do not be proud of your appearance, thinking that your appearance is unparalleled like mine. In a certain place of ascetic practice, there lives a sage, and your appearance cannot even compare to one hundredth of his, not even one thousandth, not even one hundred thousandth. Then, he was amazed. After he was amazed, he went to the place where that sage was staying. When that sage saw that child, he transformed himself into an even more beautiful appearance than that child. Then, that child saw from afar that the sage was very handsome, very charming, and very beautiful. After seeing him, his pride in his appearance disappeared, and he became delighted with that sage. After becoming delighted, he went to the place where that sage was, and after arriving, he bowed his head at his feet, and sat in front in order to listen to the Dharma. Then, that sage taught him the Dharma that was appropriate for him, and then, that child renounced the world from that very sage. After he renounced the world, he cultivated the four concentrations and the five superknowledges. Monks, what do you think? At that time, the one who became the sage, who abided in the conduct of a Bodhisattva, was myself. At that time, the one who became that child was none other than this Kimnara boy.

At that time, I also eliminated hunger with this body and dwelt in the four dhyanas and five supernormal knowledges. Now, I also eliminate hunger with this body, achieve the ultimate liberation, and abide in the blissful Nirvana. Furthermore, in the teachings of the perfectly enlightened Buddha Light-Protector, this person renounced the world. There, he practiced celibacy for a lifetime, fully maturing his faculties. Therefore, he is now completely liberated. The second Kinnara story: The setting is in Kapilavastu, where the Blessed One met with his father and son. At that time, the Blessed One accepted a meal at King Suddhodana's place one day, and the next day he accepted a meal in the company of the consorts. When the Blessed One returned after accepting the meal in the company of the consorts, Grakshadhara went to the roof and sat watching the Blessed One. When she could no longer see him, she jumped from the roof. By the power of the Buddha, the ground was transformed into a cushion filled with cotton, so that she was not harmed in the slightest. Later, the monks heard about this and reported to the Buddha, "Venerable One, look, Grakshadhara has given up her life for the sake of the Blessed One." The Blessed One said, "Not only now, but in the past, she also gave up her life for me. Listen. Monks, in the past, in the city of Varanasi, King Brahmadatta ruled the kingdom. Later, one day, King Brahmadatta prepared his fourfold army and went hunting. Because the horse could not catch the prey, the army was scattered, and the king was alone. Separated from the army, he became tired, distressed, and weak, and entered a forest to rest. In that forest, a Kinnara and his wife were playing and singing happily together, holding a lute. Then the king saw them,

Immediately, the king became intensely enamored with that Kinnara woman. Overcome by desire, he fatally struck the Kinnara with a poisoned arrow, and it died on the spot. Then, after the king killed the Kinnara, he went to the Kinnara woman and said: Beautiful woman, come here, let us both indulge in pleasure. The Kinnara woman said: With the corpse of my husband lying before me, how can I indulge in pleasure with you? Let me first make offerings to his bones, and then I will do as you wish. Having said this, she gathered wood, piled it up, placed the Kinnara's bones on top, lit a fire, and sat to one side. Then, when the wood burning the bones burst into flames, that Kinnara woman jumped into the fire and died there. Then, the great king was filled with despair, and at that time he spoke in verse: I thought of other things, But it did not turn out otherwise. Hoping to enjoy the Kinnara woman, I killed two living beings. Monks, what do you think? The one who was the Kinnara at that time, who abided in the conduct of a Bodhisattva, that was myself. The one who was the Kinnara woman at that time was none other than this Grakdzinma; at that time also she gave herself up for my sake, and now also she has given herself up for my sake.
