Seeing that he was surrounded by consorts, the king became even more filled with anger. He thought in anger: "Did the monk not see my wife?" Then he thought: "Let me observe for a while whether this person is free from desire or not." Then he said to the venerable Sarana: "Are you an Arhat?" He said: "Great King, I am not." The king said: "Are you a non-returner, a once-returner, or have you attained stream-entry? Have you attained the realm of neither perception nor non-perception, the realm of nothingness, the realm of infinite consciousness, the realm of infinite space? Have you attained the fourth dhyana, the third dhyana, the second dhyana, or the first dhyana?" He said: "Great King, I have not." Then the king thought: "This monk is not free from desire, and he has not been taught by his preceptor and teacher. I will teach him." So he called the long-serving attendants and ordered them to whip him severely and then release him. Then, having been whipped, his skin was torn, and he thought in anger: "I have done nothing wrong, yet this cruel king of a degenerate age has beaten me. I will go to my father's land and stay in my father's land, gather an army of four divisions, and then go and utterly destroy this cruel king of a degenerate age." Then he went to the venerable one who was staying in the cave of the son of Yana, and having arrived, he prostrated at the feet of the venerable son of Yana and said: "Preceptor, I have done nothing wrong, but that cruel king of a degenerate age beat me for no reason, so I will go to my parents' land, and having gone there, I will gather an army of four divisions and then go and utterly destroy that cruel king of a degenerate age. Please accept my vows." The elder said: "Child, do not be controlled by anger. Did not the Blessed One say that one who has gone forth should endure the eight worldly dharmas, namely, gain and loss, fame and disrepute, praise and blame, pleasure and pain?" The elder admonished him in this way many times.

Unable to prevent anything, the venerable Yana's son said to him: Child, if you want to go like this, it is now getting late, and there is the fear of lions, tigers, leopards, and bears on the road. Stay here for tonight and leave in the morning. Then he said: I will do as the Khenpo has said. Then, that elder slept in the same place with him, and the venerable Yana's son blessed him in order to prevent him, so that in the dream of sleeping he received teachings, returned to his father's land, and his father let him rule his kingdom, gave him four divisions of the army, and commanded: The first thing you must do is to destroy the enemy. Having said that, as soon as he heard this, he assembled the four divisions of the army and waged war on the land of the tyrant Rab Snang (Radiant Light). The tyrant Rab Snang defeated him in battle, conquered him, made him turn his back, captured him alive, and ordered him to be executed. Then, the executioners led him to the place of execution, and he saw that in the dream itself, the venerable Yana's son was begging for alms in the city. He prostrated and prayed: Khenpo, please be my refuge, please grant me hardship and spare my life. He blessed him to see such a dream. Then, he woke up frightened, but still regarded the dream as true and collapsed accordingly. The venerable Yana's son said to him: Child, you have only seen a dream, do not be afraid. Then, as soon as he heard this, Sarana became happy and began to think: This one named Sarana is me, and I have not harmed any sentient being. Now I have been controlled by anger and have killed so many people even in a dream. I think I have given up such a pursuit. Then, the elder, realizing that his mind had become sad, taught him the Dharma accordingly. Therefore, Sarana, while sitting on that very seat, abandoned all afflictions and became an Arhat.

He realized it directly. Then, King Tumporabnang heard that "the monk I whipped was the son of King Charkai." So he went to his place, prostrated at his feet, and asked for forgiveness. Relying on him, he invited the Venerable Katyayana's son to stay for seven days. Then, one day, the Venerable Katyayana's son thought, "Gain and respect must be cut off by thorns." So he went to the royal palace with the Venerable Sarana. Then, the monks heard about how the Venerable Sarana had changed. After hearing this, they reported to the Bhagavan, "Venerable Sarana, what karma did he do that, as a result of that karma, he was born into a wealthy, rich, and prosperous family? What karma did he do that, as a result of that karma, he was whipped by King Tumporabnang? And he pleased the Bhagavan, did not displease him, and renounced in the Bhagavan's teachings, abandoning all defilements, and personally realized the state of an Arhat?" The Bhagavan said, "Monks, this is the karma he himself did and accumulated. Monks, in the past, in the city of Varanasi, King Brahmadeva ruled. Then one day, his consorts went out together and went to the garden, and the king fell asleep. The women picked flowers and fruits, and those consorts wandered around in that garden. At that time when the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, did not appear in the world, the Pratyekabuddhas would appear in the world. A Pratyekabuddha spent the night in that garden, and those women saw such a beautiful body and a beautiful mind, and immediately felt joy. After feeling joy, they prostrated at his feet and sat in front of him to listen to the Dharma. Then, the king woke up and, not seeing the consorts, angrily took a sharp sword and went along the path they had taken, and the king saw that Pratyekabuddha was teaching the Dharma to the consorts.
